ComingSoon.net is reporting today, that Warner Brothers is planning to re-release The Dark Knight this January 2009. They are basically doing the same thing they did with Titanic just before the Oscars. They also said that they would release the movie on DVD, sometime in December.

Paramount didn't need to rerelease Titanic it ran continously up thru the Academy Awards. It has been done with other movies though.

I wonder if this re-release will be the extended version we were hearing about previously.

Yea thats my BAD, I thought it was re-released and it was not. But it still took 3 months to hit the 500 million mark.

Which is what makes Titanic more impressive then a lot of these summer blockbusters. Most of those movies you know in the first week whether it will be a hit. After the first week (which Titanic didn't debut at no 1) people were ready to write it off. However it came back and was no 1 for a record consecutive weeks.

I will say however that I still think that Titanic had the perfect storm, of going up against pretty weak competition. January-March was still Hollywood's dumping ground for their crappiest movies at that point in time and Paramount had moved Titanic from it's scheduled Summer release (which it probably would've died a quick death) to a December release.

Yes Movie I agree with you, and I did like the movie. However, it gained alot of steam after it won the best picture oscar. And thats why it had legs to go as long as it did. Just think if TDK was put in the same position as Titanic.

Titanic had so much more of a broader appeal, that's why I think it did so well. You had the love story that appealed to women, Leo Di Crappio for the teenage girls, since it was based on a historical event, that got the older crowd into the theaters, finally the James Cameron caliber sets/effects brought in the male viewers (even if they might have been dragged in by the wives/gfs)

TDK is a great movie but it's still a crime/superhero tale so while it may finally reach the $$$ numbers that Titanic set, I don't see it pulling in the same crowds, especially for repeat viewings.

Just my take...
