I need a reciever that will decode all of the new codecs, but also has audio out jacks. I still want to use my Sunfire amp for the "Juice". I just want to use the reciever as a preamp. Suggestions?

All of the New Sony, Denon, Marantz, and Onkyo stuff carry the newer decoders. Whats the output rating on the Sunfire? You should be really going with some of the higher end sound processors. It depends on your budget. Mos tof the manufactures I mentioned are middle of the road stuff. Yes, middle of the road. I own two as well. middle of the road because they contain amps.

Now for sound processors, the New Lexicon MC-12 HD (5.1 input, supports 7.1 output $6500) will work great, the Lexicon MV-5(Faroudja scaler on-board $2500) will save you a bit of money, or you could go old school with NAD with the NAD T175 and it's only $1999!

All of the these sound processing peices have HDMI with audio decoding, multi channel support up to 7.1, and have more than enough digital inputs. I believe that some sound processors carry balanced outputs as well. I don't ship high end anymore, it made me broke...

lol. yeah, me too!

i bought this sunfire equipment back in 01, when the financial situation was alot better than it is now. i got the theater grande, and the signature amp. (yes, bob carver really signed my amp! ) but now my fortunes have changed and so has tech. i'm thinking that a $1000 reciever will do as good of a job as the old sunfire preamp. but the THUMP and grace i get from the amp cannot be replaced. i'm not really displeased with the sound that i am already getting, but the tech junkie inside wonders if it could be better. thanks for your input reaggie.

oh yeah. 405w per channel times 5 into 8 ohms.
