Just so you know I've been format neutral for some time. I'm not trying to stir up some people like deadmeat liked to do.

I just felt like posting this and seeing what you guys think.

Super HD should be ready by 2012. It's possible but however maybe unlikely.

I am hereby predicting that both Blu-ray and DVD will be dead by 2075. Remember, you heard it here first!

(The irony is that for a lot of folks, the 78-rpm record is still not dead, and certainly not the 33 1/3 LP. Oh, well.... Maybe I'd better change my prediction to 2175 or 3075.)

Of course it will be dead in 2012. So will all of us because that is when the Mayan calendar ends (12.21.2012) and the end of the world.

this is indeed a possibility. look at sony's other failed formats for "motivation". infact, if br doesnt make a big impact THIS holiday season I PREDICT that it will die much sooner as far as MAJOR STUDIO SUPPORT goes. kinda like UMD.

Blade there are bluray players on sale right now for $250 and I imagine they could go down to $200 for Christmas. Also the bluray "library" keeps getting bigger and bigger each week. Within the next 2 months we have some pretty big titles coming out on DVD and bluray so the sales will be there.

So we have people that will be buying even more HDTV's this year (Bestbuy and other stores are actually giving away free bluray players right now when you buy some HDTV's), coupled with price drops in bluray players and some pretty darn good movies coming out on bluray just in time for the holidays and you have a pretty good formula for a successful holiday season.

Keep in mind bluray has been out now for what 2 years?

Yeah. Time to put up or shut up. Two years is a long time in this day and age. But, i gots to go with my gut on this one, and opionate the fact that i believe it will never reach the numbers sd does or did. The interest just seems really low on the mass market level. Mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, they could care less.

I would be surprised if bluray achieved the adoption of standard DVD world wide and it's hard to predict how long the format will be around for to be honest. Technology is evolving so fast now that we could have Super HD out in a couple of years, then what? Still, by then bluray players and software SHOULD be cheaper than it is now and you know how expensive new technology is when it first comes out (Super HD or whatever the next format is named) so that should give bluray longer legs.

We'll see what happens, it's fun to speculate though.

Honestly I don't think Blu-ray will die in 2012. I think it will hit mainstream success in 2011. I wonder how many idiots will still have standard def tvs in 2012.
