Well after checking out Future Shop and Best Buy flyers for the last few weeks, EVERY SINGLE TV SALE and every Home Theatre Sale comes a FREE Blu-Ray player. Is it me are are the retailers getting desparate to sell Blu-Ray to the consumer? I mean come on. It getting a little pathetic. Sure it's nice to get a free gift, but every purchase to push Blu-Ray? I guess I shouldn't say all. Toshiba sales isn't pushing Blu-Ray players. Just really good prices. Before Chirstmas, I can see them pushing dishwasher, front loading laudry devices, and fridges with Blu-Ray players. Anyways sorry to be a little cranky but, it was too obvious not to say anything.

Reaggie, as a consumer, why is it a bad thing that you get a free bluray player with the purchase of your HDTV?

If anything I would be more inclined to get the new tv with this offer which is kind of the point isn't it?

Just like supermarkets in my area are desperate to sell more Post cereal this week by offering Buy 1 Get 1 deals.

Come on man. If you're cranky stay away from the board.

Jason, definitely not cranky

Yeah, you are right. But it still shows that Blu-Ray may not be catching on quickly enough for the retailers. There is nothing wrong with a free gift, but it looks a bit pathetic. Hey, what do I know...I already bought one.

Reaggie it may not be so much an issue with bluray players selling as much as TV's not selling which may be why retailers are throwing in bluray players to increase TV sales (which by the way have higher markups than bluray players). I'll take it.

Heck if Toshiba wants to throw in one of the new XDE 500 upconverting DVD players with the purchase of their TV's I would seriously look into it.

BTW, I noticed last week that the 52" Sharp Aquos 1080P LCD TV was on sale for $1699 at futureshop. That's incredible.

EDIT: I just noticed Bestbuy.ca has a different 52" Sharp Aquos for sale at the same $1699 price...

http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926HDS0010109984&catid=26554&logon=&langid=EN

Not sure what the differences are but those are beautiful prices for 1080P TV's of that size and quality.

Yesterday a friend of mine picked up the Panasonic 42" 800 series plasma for $1499. The 50" was going to $1800. You could be right. I look at FS web site and they sell them for $1999, and $2699 respectively.
