Judging by the lack of buzz this film is getting there probably won't be any Oscar nominations, I would like to know if there are any DVDTOWN reviews coming?

Tony,

I won't completely rule it out sometime next weekend, but I'm much more interested in seeing either The Women or Lakeview Terrace. I will have a review of Ghost Town hopefully Friday night. RK hasn't exactly been lighting up with Oscar talk, now has it?

Jason, diversified

EDIT: Ghost Town doesn't come out until the 26th the press screenings are this week. Sorry!

Ya Tony, a movie has to be "oscar worthy" to get a timely review. i.e. The Women

Not fair.

#1: We as a group and I specifically have reviewed a shitload of movies in a timely fashion which had no aspirations of Oscar greatness (The Strangers, 300, Waitress, etc...).

#2: There are only so many hours in a day. We can't possibly compete with a site like DVDTalk or any of the major critics. For one, we all have other jobs and write here for the fun of it. For another, I'm in Detroit. We didn't get There Will Be Blood until January, about 3 weeks after it rolled out in LA and New York.

#3: I also have to take the people I go to the movies with into consideration. One is my BF and the other is my "sister from another mother". I don't always get to see what I want in a timely fashion and sometimes I don't get to see it period.

#4: If you think you can do better, feel free to drop a writing sample in e-mail. Otherwise, remember that those who can, do those who can't, criticize.

Just to follow up on this with you, Tony.

My movie buddy is gunning for Righteous Kill this weekend over Lakeview Terrace, The Women, The Family That Preys and whatever else is coming. So you'll likely have a review on Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Jason, informative

I say give Jason a break, he did a review of "Momma Mia", which had to be painful enough as it is.

I was commenting on how you acted like you weren't in a rush to see RK b/c it won't be in the "Oscar Talk" after saying you would see The Women soon. Just thought that was funny. But review all the movies nobody cares about all you want.

You could always read the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes if you're that interested in getting a review right away. So far out of 85 reviews, only 19 gave RK a fresh tomato (22%). "The Women" did even worse with 108 reviews and only 11 were fresh tomatoes (10%). Needless to say, it would appear neither film will end up Oscar worthy. Then again, this is that odd time of year that you shouldn't expect Oscar worthy films to come out before the Winter release schedule.

I believe I said I was more interested in other films. I made a mention of the non-Oscar talk for RK based on Tony's comment regarding a lack of buzz and, therefore, probably Oscar nods.

Wrong. I said I was more interested in seeing The Women, not that I would see it soon. (If you had said I was going to see Ghost Town soon, you would be correct. But you didn't.)

So, tell me. What should I review? Maybe open this to a poll ever Thursday once I know what is available?

I say keep reviewing what you want and forget what people like me say.
Agreed?
