I'm not surprised. I've been saying all along that downloads might be good for some people, but they will never be a replacement for the discs. Only a nice alternative. Good article.

Blockbuster.com did just start a movie download service. Looks neat but I like the mail more. My tv is bigger than my computer monitor. And my computer is in a coma now anyway thanks to a virus. Yay

Blockbuster charges for each movie download. Weren't they supposed to be offering something similar to Netflix? That pissed me off. Of course no one who is a member will download much when you can just get as many as you like in the mail for the monthly flat fee.

Add another to the "not surprised" list.

The biggie for me is the quality. It's good, but at the costs most want for film downloads (about the same as DVD, sometimes higher) it's not worth it, nor would the time to download a BD be worth it. High cost, invasive DRM, lacking bandwidth (for the money, at least) all keep my on physical discs. BB charging for their downloads caught me by surprise, Netlfix has it right: free for paying members.

Yeah, I think they both have it wrong. I've had both services. Netflix only streams movies (bad quality compared to dvd and part of membership). Blockbuster lets you download movies (priced out per download). Verizon has it right with their Starzplay. I download and watch as many movies as i want for a monthly price of $5.99. Now you cant beat that. However, their selection is small.

www.verizon.net/starzplay You must have verizon as your internet service to get this.

But Blockbuster has a better selection of movies to download.

I'd be more curious to see downloads vs. physical disk rentals.

I love my disks (and whatever they'll become in the future..face it, I'm a sucker for packaging). However, from a rental standpoint, I haven't been to a rental store in years(mostly because I owed them late fees). However, now w/ PS3 (which I've been sticking to standard def cuz of transfer times) and On demand via cable (which the interface sucks) I don't have to. This has to be gaining momentum.
