Or, which of my pimp homees is still hangin' in the hizzle?

Please correct me if I have mangled the proper verbage or usage of the vernacular.

Of course Henning, John, Eddie and Tim are still around, which is good, because without them, it wouldn't be DVD Town anymore. I haven't looked at many of the threads lately, so I don't know if anyone else is still here. Sean, TGP, Sasha, MRA, Chin, Depression... where are you guys?

A lot of the old-towner's skipped town when the whole format war got too heated up. We had various trolls on both sides stirring the pot on a daily basis. Things are starting to get back to the days of old when we would talk about anything and not just technical BS. We have had some of those "what's your favorite . . . or worst (tv, movie, etc)" topics which has helped bring back some variety to the forums. We still have some techies in here that think we should only talk about format tech BS all day, thus they seem to have never read the DVDTOWN slogan "Where Movies Matter". Nevertheless, with the death of the format war, things are slowly getting back to normal.

PS. I do see Depression pop in every now-and-then, but not as much as he used to.

There does seem to be a calm settling over the Town, doesn't there?

I too chimed in on a few of the heated debates during the format wars, but, it just got too... for lack of a better word, idiotic. I feel like a lot of the threads posted during those years should be deleted, if for no other reason than, you'll be dumber for having read them, and you'll never get that time and energy back.

I do like the occasional heated debate, such as the "Michael Moore" discussion days, but, I do like the technical discussions at times as well.

I remember when I first came to DVD Town I had just bought a Sony "Progressive Scan" DVD player, and was asking all kinds of questions about "if" there was going to be a High Definition player at some point. Back then, there seemed to be quite a few VERY knowledgeable people here that knew what the camps were doing, the specifics of how HD TVs worked and aspect ratios, I LOVED IT! And not once did I have anyone condescend to me, name call, or basically belittle me because of which camp I was leaning towards.

Those were the days, eh Tim?

Yes, those were the good old days. I'd say the last couple years here have been the dark times. We seem to have lost a lot of regulars, topics were the same hi-def BS day after day (broken record scenario), trolls, and for the first time the DVDTOWN staff has had to set some rules in the message boards.

Now that things are being moderated by a couple staff members, I can already see that things have been getting better over the past month. Hopefully the new group of peeps we have will keep the topics broad, fun and interesting. Personally, I think talking about SONY, PS3, Toshiba, Brooo-ray has wore its welcome out with me.

Sorry kuco, I knew I missed some people, and I'm probably still missing a few others, but, 2 years is a long time to be away (on a consistent basis) and I tend to forget. None the less, I've missed you all!

Though, my attendance might be sketchy until next spring. My wife has ok'd me for the purchase of a new motorcycle (bullet bike for me ) but we have to pay off quite a bit of debt in order for me to do this, and in a timely manner. So, if I want to ride by the beginning to mid next spring, I need to work 2 (yes 2) full time jobs for at least 3.5 months between now and end of March, early April.

Insanity... you might be saying to yourself, and, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but, once I've set a dream into motion that is in reasonable grasp for me, and I have the choice of waiting 7 months, or an uncomfortable 3.5 months, I'll almost always choose the latter.

Tim,

I agree with you completely about "the dark years" here. I did VERY MUCH enjoy your broken record pics, as well as many others you'd post. It was icing on the cake when the 'rebels without a cause' would whine that "Tim's ruining my thread". Ugh... I shouldn't revel in the pain of others, it's not nice. But it sure did seem like just a little bit of justice was done, after people like that were mucking up our boards! Oh well, I guess it's over until "Superdefinition" (and it's competition) arrives. Tim, I trust you'll have a picture of a "Beta" and "VHS" tape sitting next to each other, ready to post when that time comes?

Plus... when some get out-of-line, they get added to Tim's infamous "RICHARD HEAD" list, and don't get removed until he says so (some real 'baddies' are still on that list). I unfortunately made the list once, but Tim later informed me that I had improved my behaviour well enough to get removed - which made me very happy.

And Eddie loves that word 'CHODE', which I now find myself using too sometimes among friends.
