However, a survey showed that price cuts indeed is needed for the format to blossom. Out of 1.500 asked more than a third of those surveyed said they're either waiting for Blu-ray player prices to drop further

This week the BDA has stated that Blu-ray prices are unlikely to fall anytime soon.

With the credit crunch deepening surely the BDA must rethink its stance to get people buying. Even with a price drop in this current climate are people going to invest?

If prices remain where they are for the foreseeable future as the BDA suggest and people remain concerned about the economy well into 2009 as economists predict how long before retailers have to reclaim their valuable floor/warehouse space for items that do sell in numbers?

Netfilix has stated that Blu-ray will have little effect on its rental business for 2008 what happens if that continues into 2009?

I agree, we need a set-top profile 1.1 player from a quality brand at $199 and we need it in time for the holidays.

Heck, I wouldn't even mind profile 1.0 or 1.1 (play only) as long as it boots quick (15seconds or less), loads quick (under 15seconds), responds to commands quickly, and upconverts nicely and $150 or less.

But yes, today's economy is certainly on everyone's mind.

In other news I hear that the second gen Funai is coming out soon "B1-M110"

henning, the funai clone (profile 1.1) at best buy (insignia brand) is already only $229. this machine will probably get another price cut when funai's next-gen clones are shipped to wal-mart/best buy/amazon/etc.

you know what's nice about the funai clones? they're better than all other non-profile-2.0 players, and they're cheaper than every other profile 1.1 player on the market.
