Part II of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" would be "The Subtle Knife," which IMDb Pro has listed as "In Development" for 2009. I think WB/New Line will probably go with it again, even though there was some disappointment in the first installment.

The first one was fun. I'd love to see the next one. Not to mention... Sam Elliot is awesome.

John,

I have zero interest in these movies, but based on your description of the third book, I'll be standing in line to see an adaptation of the third one even if lines don't really form outside of movie theatres any more (per Tim's smart-ass posts).

Yeah, I'm waiting for the third installment, too, because the book has one scene in it in particular that's pretty controversial. If the filmmakers actually put it in the movie, I'd be very, very surprised.

Great! We can actually get to see what happens next...is there a director's cut of the Golden Compass? The movie feel so rushed and nothing gets to be fleshed out...but otherwise, a very entertaining movie, but not a good a franchise as Narnia, IMO...

To tell the truth I feel that The Golden Compass was more fun and interesting then Narnia... But that's just me.

I agree Mike The Golden Compass was better than The Chronicals part 1, I haven't seen 2 yet.

I could see a discussion of "Golden Compass" and "Narnia, Part 2" and which was better, but, no, I'd have to say I enjoyed "Narnia, Part 1" quite a lot more than "Compass." Far more heart, feeling, compassion, sweetness, adventure, excitement, etc. But maybe that's just me.
