So in the second half of the third movie (or as a smaller, growing subplot), you have Harley Quinn trying to get Joker out of Arkham, with the ending of the movie having him escaping, again, because Batman might've chosen to save or to do something else (another lover?)...
Then, on the fourth movie, you have Joker seeking revenge with Batman, and in the ending, an actual bloody and violent confrontation (no dogs allowed, PLEASE) with Batman still not killing him, but maybe rendering the Joker unable to walk or move or something similar, and Batman (maybe??) grieving for his actions...
For the role of Joker:
-Johnny Depp...I'd rather see him as Joker than Edward Nigma.
-Crispin Glover...He has that akward, wierd, odd thing going on, just watch Willard, or that new movie people like...
-Joseph Gordon Levitt...They say he is alike in appearance, age and style I mean, it could work.
-Javier Bardem...I don't think he would articulate as good as Ledger, but he is menacing and a great actor.
-Steve Carrell...Maybe a little too campy, but he is a good actor, and might make us laugh intentionally, or was I the only one that didn't laugh at everything Ledger did??
Of course, this is just the Joker part, but I think Catwoman and Robin should be included in Nolan's Batman's Universe...
Anyways, fanboys can dream, what about your thoughts?

What does respect have to do with the Joker character? So now Joker is going to be shun out of the Batman universe because an actor died? It really makes no sense whatsoever why Nolan wouldn't get somebody else to play the role you praise Ledger's work by getting somebody to play the character nothing like Ledger, in his own way...

besides, this is BATMAN...why rely on the same foes when their are so many others in the cannon?
edit:
(judging by the ending of tdk..batman himself will be the badguy. this sounds interesting to me.)

View profile »If they had to replace Joker then I would say Josh Gordon Levitt would be the best choice.
He must be related to Ledger in some way. I'm not sure how he would be as a villian though.
He is playing as cobra commander in the GI Joe movie, so I guess we will see soon enough.

TDK is, IS the Joker movie everybody wanted.
On top of what bladerunner has already stated, Nolan just doesn't strike me as the person who would want to retead the same character. Not with all of the characters available for him to explore.
>>>>SPOILERS<<<<<
Really, what else is there for the Joker and Batman to settle? He murdered his lover, transformed the city's symbol of hope into a monster, and made Batman question his own beliefs. How could another Joker-centric movie progress or evolve what has already happened between the two characters?
