And you guys wonder why Laser Disc never became mainstream. Those prices were ridiculous! I guess after a few different format technologies they have figured out what the pricing needs to be for the majority of consumers to invest into it.

Glad to see bluray prices the way they are. Especially in these trying times.

Still, after years and years, and hundred of thousands of dollars (or yens or euros, make your pick) spent on R&D, you still get LOTS of problems with the format...we are not at war anymore (between HD DVD and blu-ray of course), so there is no hate, but really?

Sony is well known for most of the Average Joe to be one of the best products to buy...and yet you have blu-ray with lots of problems, and still not having profile 2.0 mainstream...so let it be...great for Paramount for fixing the problem...agreed with Indy 4 also having problems, and LOL at Eddie's Sony not playing Sony comment...

Average Joe should realize by now that Sony has not upheld the quality they once had.

Seems right now that the Panasonic and Insignia BD players are the way to go for standalones.

Wolvinator I completely agree that Sony is not the quality product it once was but as far as this...

"Seems right now that the Panasonic and Insignia BD players are the way to go for standalones."

You cannot forget about the Sony Playstation 3.

These problems are why I still stick to DVD. I see our economy going to hell. I am a project manager for a construction company so I don't think I will be buying a lot of toys right now.

Eddie, I agree about the PS3 being ugly, it truly is.

On the other side, for everything it does, I still think it's the best bang for your buck (although I wish it had analogue outputs) but it's not for everybody as some have already mentioned.

Lest we forget, the title of this thread concerns early copies of the "Iron Man" disc being recalled because they wouldn't play in certain Sony (but not PS3s) and Samsung players. That issue, which is now fixed, and the matter of the TrueHD tripping the "Night Listening" mode of dynamic-range compression on certain Onkyo and Denon receivers are both problems I believe we can attribute to Paramount, not Sony.

I know how much some folks like to bash Sony, but in the case of "Iron Man," it wasn't their fault.

Well, those discs are made with the software and hardware approved by the "blu-ray group" aka Sony...so yeah, Sony's fault (and I'm not a Usual blu-ray Basher)...
