Just to keep all informed there is a long install on the PS3 for Iron Man. This is because of the BD Live. Mine never got through last night but you can avoid all of this on the PS3 but D/C your internet connection or by turning the BD Live option to confirm. This will prevent an automatic download from happening. hopefully i'm not repeating information over again and hopefully this helped out someone out there. i know i was awfully pissed last night when it didn't work for me. Thanks

Thanks for the heads up.

I'm planning on picking this up for the weekend family movie night. It would suck to find out at 8-9 PM that the install is going to take 4 ever to complete due to downloads. Then kids melt down and you can't finish the movie.

That said, I'll run the install early.

Thanks again

Yes, definitely good to know as I also use a PS3 as my bluray player.

To this day I don't think I have ever used any of the web features on any of the bluray movies. Profile 1.1 players sound like a better deal all the time.

A major reason NOT to use a PS3 for movie playing. I'm just an old fashioned kind of guy all I want to do is WATCH the movie, not interact with it. Hell, I get impatient with Microsoft downloads on my PC let alone with mega downloads that I don't want on an entertainment device. That would drive me nuts! Next thing you know, you'll be getting forced political ads and sales pitches through BD live, God help us.

i should say this is the first bump in the road i've ever had with the PS3. i guess if you were an early adopter of blu ray players you don't need to worry about it cause you don't have Profile 1.1. but i'm extremely happy with the ps3 and its playing capabilities. i now know to have the PS3 confirm these downloads and i will skip them in the future.

Well, since I don't have my 60GB PS3 connected to anything online (use it just for BD movies), I'm assuming that it won't be affected by the glitch. I haven't bought Iron Man, and was planning on a rental now anyway, with a purchase later (when on sale).

HERE'S MORE about the problem with playback.

My copy came today. It loaded quickly on my Panasonic. I've only tried a few brief scenes but it seems ok. I've never had a glitch with that machine.

Tonight, Paramount has issued the FOLLOWING STATEMENT regarding the BD-Live functionality of Iron Man -

"The Iron Man Blu-ray went on sale Tuesday and due to the overwhelming popularity of the release an unprecedented demand was placed on the BD-Live connection. The disc represents a truly state-of-the art Blu-ray presentation with a first of its kind BD-Live application. As such, the heavy amount of traffic strained the servers due to so many people heading to the same destination. The bandwidth capacity was increased in preparation for the release but the demand exceeded all expectations so capacity was expanded dramatically last night and local servers were established worldwide to accommodate all the fans. The issue should be completely resolved but if anyone experiences a brief traffic jam, we have provided consumers with a menu option during disc startup that allows them to go directly to the movie main menu or continue to download the BD-Live features."

In fairness to the PS3, I've heard that any Profile 2.0 BD player connected to the Internet will automatically make these downloads with the disc. Reason enough for me not connect my Panny BD50 to the Internet.
