Here is a problem that nobody can answer for me (at least so far).
A few weeks ago I purchased several movie dvd's from Frys. I took them to Hawaii with us on vacation by taking them out of their boxes and wrapped them between some beach towels in our checked in luggage.
The 1st and 2nd night there we watched 2 of them. On the 3rd night, none of them worked, even the 2 we already watched. A "no disk" error showed up on both dvd players (living room & bedroom).
Brought them home and tried them on our home dvd player. Same problem. Tried another dvd I've had for years with no problem, that one was ok.
So all of the dvd's I bought from Frys are now not readable. Why did 2 of them work for a while, then stopped working.

I'm going to play dumb and go for the very obvious.

- Are they scratched in any way, shape or form?
- Are they special discs? I mean, are they rentals or "short terms" discs that will deteriorate after a predetermined time period.

Have you tried taking them back to Fry's, explaining the situation and asking for a straight up exchange?

Jason, helpful?

Sounds like it's probably the towels. If they jiggled or slid back and forth quite a bit inside them, the constant rubbing might have ruined them. I'd recommend picking up one of those portable CD/DVD wallets for better protection.

I don't know if this is even possible but considering the discs were wrapped in towels...is it possible that Static from the towels screwed up the discs?

Just wondering.

The DVD's were in perfect condition when I got there (not a scratch).
2 notes:
(1). Odd that the 1st 2 played fine, then stopped (along with the others). Makes me wonder if when I took them out of the box, it triggered something that allowed them to be played from only a short period of time.
(2). Something at the airport security for checked-in luggage had something to do with it (x ray?).

Yes, DVD's to Hawaii seems odd, but after our 16th trip there, there's nothing new anymore, and the diving during the days still compels me to go there. For us here on the west coast, it's only 5 hours to get there.

The discs might not be scratched, but there might be some very fine lint on them in the grooves that you can't see. Maybe go to Best Buy and pick up one of those DVD cleaners.

I go to the town where I was born around twice a year, and I still haven't taken any discs (except for an Elvis concert for my grandma)...granted, I do go to the movies, but you have to realize that there is an IMAX theatre there, and that the theatres that I go to are nice and comfortable...

What were the titles?
