My plans were to purchase a BR player when they were about the price of some of the current specials on Sony and Samsung players (both of which have less than stellar reviews). Wanting trouble free hardware, I decided I would wait a bit longer for a player with a better reputation to go to a similar price. But...

A good friend was selling his PS3 for financial reasons, so I purchased his 40gb model with 3 games (loving MGS4), an extra controller, and an online headset. I have yet to play a single BR on it, and unfortunately just having financed a car, I don't have the capital to buy too many movies. I will be looking forward to buying LOTR and some Disney movies. Had I gotten it a bit sooner, Iron Man would have been my first BR.

I will probably upgrade my Netflix membership to include BR titles so that I may once again fill my HD hunger.

HD-Fan, welcome to the brotherhood. If money is going to be an issue when it comes to BD movies, upgrade your Netflix. I know that they have saved me alot of money between SD-DVD, Blu-ray, and VoD streaming.

HD_Fanatic, congrats on the PS3. It's not only great for HD movies but you can play some great games on it and do some other stuff like watch videos, pics, etc.

Definitely add some bluray movies to your Netflix account ot rent the odd one at your local video store. Also you can get some great deals on Craigslist and Ebay for movies.

BTW I was playing Guitar Hero 3 on my PS3 last night for roughly 4 hours. Let's just say I'm lovin' the PS3 for everything it does.

Hey Falcon, did you hear that netflix is going to charge $1 to your monthly fee if you prefer Blu-ray versions of films.

I was wondering about that. $1 isn't bad. Especially considering what they pay for the discs.

Tony, I read somewhere that they were going to charge a premium but I didn't know how much. $1 is nothing to get your movies in bluray instead of standard DVD. I would be all over it.

Does Netflix rent games also? The Canadian online rental site I use (zip.ca) is supposed to be renting games soon which is sweet.

Netflix Does not Falcon... however GameFly does. And they suck. NetFlix has the common courtesy to check if you have enough money in your account to charge you... if not they seize up until you do. GameFly however... is Gung Ho and goes right ahead.

All I rent is BD from Netflix. If it ain't Hi Def, I struggle to watch it. The extra charge is well worth it.

Eventhough I prefer HD-BDs, my PS3 along with my 1080p does an excellent job of upconverting SD-DVDs. I'm currently watching Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark and it looks almost HD quality.
