Call it anticipation or just call me a person who has no patience. But I was checking a site called dealnews.com and this is what they are predicting for BF 2008.

Blu Ray Player(s) $149.99

Blu Ray Bundle(movies) $199.99

Select Blu Ray Movies $9.99

Like I said it is there prediction, but I thought I would get the BIG ball moving!!!

I don't have the link off hand, but one fun little website was thinking CC would be the major high def home theater winner this year with lots of discounts on audio, video and movies. If so, I am SO in for a full 7.1 surround system to replace the current one.

With the way stocks have been nose diving today and this report saying consumer spending in the U.S. fell by twice as much as forecasted in the month of September...well you guys should be getting some crazy deals on electronics.

Retail sales plunge 1.2 percent in September

WASHINGTON - Retail sales fell off a cliff in September, plunging by the largest amount in three years as worried consumers shunned the malls and auto showrooms in the midst of the country's financial meltdown.

The Commerce Department reported Wednesday retail sales decreased 1.2 percent last month, nearly double the 0.7 percent drop that had been expected. It was the biggest decline since retail sales fell by 1.4 percent in August 2005.

The bigger-than-expected decline significantly increased the risks of a recession because consumer spending is two-thirds of total economic activity.

The weakness was led by a 3.8 percent drop in auto sales. Sales dropped below 1 million units as consumers struggled to find financing.

Retail sales have now fallen for three consecutive months, the first time that has occurred on government records that go back to 1992. Economists had expected sales to be down in September as a flood of bad news about the financial system and rising unemployment increased consumers' worries.

"The consumer shut up shop even before the markets got crushed and that is not good news for the economy," said Joel Naroff, chief economist at Naroff Economic Advisors. "What is ominous is that the declines in spending were broad based."

Sales at department stores fell by 1.5 percent following an even bigger 1.6 percent drop in July. Sales at furniture stores fell by 2.3 percent. Sales at appliance stores slid 1.5 percent.

Remember when McCain said not too long ago that the economy was ok?

Well after being stung by Toshiba and HD DVD ( I know I have no one to blame but myself) it is worth my while just to sit back, relax and wait for the pre Christmas bargains. Actually I am waiting until the second week of November. If I buy my Blu Ray player then and the price drops, then Best Buyand Curcuit City will match it up to 30 days.

All I know is this, prices on ALOT of consumer goods will be off the wall this holiday season.

I thought the whole idea of Blu-ray was to become the higher quality DVD and charge accordingly?? If the movie studios are not making enough money charging what they do for DVD's, why would charging 9.99 for a Blu-ray be economical feasible?? I cannot see Blu movies sold at the same price as DVD because of cost to make the discs and profit.
Of course I could be totally wrong and Blu is cheaper to make and market than DVD, and they can make tons of coin even if they charge $5 per Blu movie.

> $150 Blu-ray players destined for Black Friday?

Could it be? Could we really see stacks upon stacks of Profile 1.1 (and maybe one or two Profile 2.0) Blu-ray players flying into carts on Black Friday? According to sources speaking with the typically reliable Fudzilla, that's exactly what we'll see -- well, if people think $150 is a low enough threshold. We're told that some of the older units (think Samsung's recently discounted BD-P1500, Funai's NB500 and Sony's BDP-S300) could be seen for as low as $150 as manufacturers attempt to clear out old inventory and make room for the Profile 2.0 push during the holidays. Our take? It makes sense. Another holiday season with only the hardcore movie buffs buying into Blu-ray won't be any good for disc sales in 2009 -- BD adoption needs to pick up, and this sounds like the perfect catalyst.

I don't think the studios have anything to do with BF sale prices. They are store generated. Therefore, the disc is the loss leader in the store for the player, cables, television, batteries, remotes speakers...

Weel said Jason,
Stores don't even make money on new releases much less DVDs that sell for 5 bucks. They get you in the stores to get the cheapo dvds in hopes that you buy an item w/ a high markup, or try to sell you on services.

Did you honestly think that stores made money on their door busters on BF?

Ladies and gentleman, remember we are talking about Black Friday, which equals a one day, until noon sale. This is again a way of getting you in the store so you can buy more. And they usually only have limited quantities. So yes I do beleive that a Blu Ray DVD can be sold at $9.99, you are only talking about a few hours on one particular day.

Remember, there will also be the popular Cyber Monday sales, I think this is where you will be able to snatch up some really good deals.

You are right, one day of sales will not break the band for the studios. I just hear so much about how blu ray will be as cheap as DVD soon and then they will be mainstream, and I don't think that can happen (besides one day sales).
Being from Canada, I don't get the Black friday sales here so it will be interesting to see the sales.
