So it turns out my Sony registration doesn't work for Universal. You would think that at least the BDA could have gotten the studios to cooperate on an authentication and provisioning service, even if they want to provide their own distinctive GUI and content. So only 5 registrations to go? And it looks like 7 different user names, since the Sony one was taken on Universal. Oh yeah, what is the point of this registration again simply to access disk specific content?

I gave up on the Universal registration. I went through the screens, and assumed because it took my chosen user name, it was ok. So I get to the VERY last entry screen, after adding my email, sex, birthday, etc.... when suddenly upon finishing it tells me the user name I choose was already taken. Well F**K me, after using that remote with that on screen keyboard? So fine, I select "back" as it said to go to the very first screen... and all information is gone and has been reverted to the defaults. Meaning I'd have to start this 20 minute process over again. F**K THEM.

(laughing as i wonder why anyone would bother to look at trailers via a blu-ray player when trailers are easily downloadable on computers in 1080p anyway)

Skyhawk, I downloaded some extra features and I like them, but when it came to the other stuff, Paramount requires you to log on to their servers and that's what turned me off.

Tony, for everything except trailers.. in other words, the exclusive disk internet content only available to the Blu-ray disk owners... you have to register for all the darn studios, and separately. And yeah, agreed that turns me off too as you can tell!

I think they have to all agree on a central authentication service - single sign on. Heck, all the studios can give money to me for this purpose, and I'll whip up a provisioning and authentication service for only a few hundred grand, if they pay for the server costs later according to the relative bandwidth used each for this purpose )

Really it would be so fair! And they'd still get to keep their own stupid unique GUI BD-Live environments.

And then they can start to work on some content that I might actually want to go through the pain of registering for. As I mentioned, I gave up on Universal and don't even care what unique offerings were provided because of the registration pain I suffered! LOL

After being non impressed by the internet features on HD DVD and now all the problems with BD Live I don't really care one ounce about ever using it. My BD-P1500 is going back to the store and I will replace it with the first good price on a Panasonic BD.

These machines just cannot function well enough for online activities.

Eddie, 1080P trailers look so much better on a big screen than a computer monitor! As far as having to use a separate sign-on for each studios BD-Live! features...yeah that's just dumb and not well planned or thought out.
