I just scored a Magnavox player off ebay for 124.99. Is that a pretty good deal? I think I've seen the player for like 199.99 at sams club.

I checked out the prices on those Denon players. Wow those are just criminal. Why would anyone buy those?

that's a good price. the sylvania is being sold for $190 amazon.com, so anything under $150 is a good deal.

welcome to the club (i listed you in the very first post).

That's crazy how there's so many clones out there. Whatever you can get a good deal on I say jump on it. Over the weekend I went into radioshack and they had the sylvania blu ray player for only $134.99. That's in Santa Cruz, CA so I'm not sure if you guys will have the same pricing. The sales associate told me that they are being discontinued so that's why the price is so low. Not sure how legit that response was but the price looks pretty legit to me!

Well I'm happy to be apart of the club!

I bought the NB500 model, I think it is currently being replaced with the 530 in stores. I don't think there is really much difference between the two players.

it's funny walking through target stores. target carries TVs for three of funai's brands--philips, magnavox, and sylvania. the TVs are mostly identical except for the brand names. the brands take turns getting discounted. one week, the magnavox is reduced in price by $100, the next week, the philips is reduced in price by $100.

btw, if you go to funai's french website (www.funai.fr), you can see the clone being sold in europe under funai's own name.

"Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. (Royal Philips Electronics Inc.), usually known as Philips, (Euronext: PHIA, NYSE: PHG) is one of the largest electronics companies in the world, founded and headquartered in the Netherlands. In 2007, its sales were €26.79 billion and it employed 123,800 people in more than 60 countries. Philips is organized in a number of sectors: Philips Consumer Lifestyle (formerly Philips Consumer Electronics and Philips Domestic Appliances and Personal Care), Philips Lighting, and Philips Healthcare (formerly Philips Medical Systems).

Funai manufactures and designs products under its own Emerson, Pye, Sylvania, and Symphonic brands. In 2008, Philips agreed to hand over its entire consumer electronics business to Funai, with Funai now manufacturing Philips and Magnavox flat-panel TVs and video products, effective January 1, 2009. Funai also manufactures DVD and Blu-Ray players for Denon, DVD players/recorders for Toshiba, digital cameras for Eastman Kodak, projectors for Intech, and computer printers for Dell and Lexmark." --Wikipedia

Amazon is now selling one of the Sylvania models for $160. This model includes an HDMI cable, so you don't need to go through the hassle of buying a separate one.

From what I can tell, the "second gen" Funai players are different from the "first gen" in the following ways:
--the SD card slot is in the middle of the front faceplate instead of on the right-hand side
--optical audio out is now standard
--the rear panel layout has been re-configured.

Eddie, the on the 360 spin on the BB website, the 'new' Insignia looks like it has an ethernet port...does that mean it's not a clone?
