jose,

yeah, the second-gen insignia is NOT a clone. it looks like a samsung. what i don't like about it is that it does not have an EPA "energy saver" stamp of approval.

If you're looking for an inexpensive Blu-ray player and happen to be wandering the aisles at Wal-Mart, look for the Magnavox NB500MGX. The graphics on the box look identical for the NB500MGX and the NB530MBX, but the 500 was carried specifically to be sold for $128 during the week prior to Father's Day. Some stores have leftover inventory, and the 500 is still only $128 vs. $168 for the 530.

IB,

Yeah, I saw. It seems like some people are just complaining for the sake of complaining.

One guy has a 50-inch TV and wrote that it's not worth his while to get Blu-ray. Huh?!? I have a 32-inch TV, and Blu-ray is amazing. Like my good friend John Puccio, I can't bear to watch SD TV (unless I have to if a movie hasn't been released on Blu-ray yet).

Anyway, from the looks of things, people are indeed buying the Funai clones, and I hope that more and more join our ranks.

Again, I hate to sound like a broken record, however Best Buy has some good deals on Blu Ray movies this week in their add. Bottom line, the deals are out there and the prices are coming down. So to all the hater's, "Build A Bridge And Get Over It."

okay, there are no more excuses for not jumping into the high-def pool. wal-mart will be selling a 2nd-gen funai clone for $78 on black friday. moreover, blu-rays are routinely sold for $5-$10 at best buy and amazon.com. these are "big" features, not straight-to-video crap.

Didn't Dean just review the DVD of this movie's buyers: "Funai People"?

The overwhelming majority are big feature crap.

Criterion is putting out some good ones though.
