^ Never said that. What I have said this entire conversation is that since the world economy is having issues AND the consumer has (generally speaking) not been able to use cc's responsibly, Sony has a responsibility as a company who depends on the consumer for their bottom line not to fuck said consumer for a quick profit.

Jason, consumer responsibility??

Goodness gracious. Did I ever say Sony was 100% responsible? NO. I said in the wake of the economic troubles the entire WORLD is having, to brazenly offer an incentive like movies to sign up for a card is not terribly smart. Why?

As I've already pointed out, in general, consumers can not use cc's properly, racking up enormous debt to buy stuff they don't need. When they don't pay the bill, Sony receives less money in return, thereby cutting into their bottom line. It doesn't make much sense-AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME-for this offer to be out there, knowing consumer tendency. They're cutting off potential long term profits for a quick buck.

Similarly, fast food companies are not solely responsible for obese people. Car companies are not solely responsible for crashes. Ultimately, wanna know who I hold responsible? Mommy and Daddy who didn't teach the kids about proper money management. Schools for focusing on unuseable math instead of budgets. CC companies with ridiculous offers like this. Society at large who puts a premium on stuff instead of security.

Please, before you jump in and start with the "common sense, long gone..." bullshit, read the words I've written, okay?

Yes that is right. Right now there is a few cases that have been brought the Supreme Court in the US, where Gun manufactures will soon be responsible for the proper training and usage of firearms. The day is coming. Look for more and more companies to be held accountable and liable for their products. This idea of getting free crap just to sign up for debt is ludacris! Sony is basically saying, "Sign up for this credit card, and you get five free movies, not to mention a discount is available to you JOE customer to buy a SONY BLU-RAY PLAYER with this credit card". What are people dumb and can't read between the borrowed credit lines!

And you wonder why there is a huge defecit and recession in the waiting...
Geesh...

They are NOT responsible, at all. They market their foods, you are hungry, you go into the store, you indulge, you get fat. And let's not start with 'subliminal' messages or that stuff, please. I mean, is common sense really lost in the American public???

I'm not against what you said Jason, but really, people should start taking responsibility for what they do...and to be fair, the only thing I like from McDonald's, are the McFlurries...

So by your definition, drug dealers and drug "growers" aren't the problem. Law enforcement should be going after the end users, yes?

Nine times out of ten, yes. I can give you a handful of headlines right now screaming "duh" or showing an extreme lack of common sense. We haven't learned about delayed gratification or a need vs. a want. No idea how to budget or be responsible because the government will always be there to help us. Social Security, unemployment, the FDIC and so on. (Sidenote: yes, some protections are necessary, but not all of them.) It's exactly why we're in the financial mess we're in now and, by extension, how we're talking about the use of cc's in this thread now.

Jason, making sense?

MCDs=Drug dealers????????
Has everyone taken crazy pills? You know drugs are illegal and Big-Macs aren't right? I know this is a message board but come on people try to think before posting.

I don't see what the big leap is. Both are bad for health, yet marijuana and other drugs are illegal while big macs with triple cheese and a biggie french fry are legal. Fast food are health terrorists, just as people who went whole hog into sub prime mortgages are financial terrorists and car companies putting all their eggs in the SUV/truck bucket are gas terrorists (for lack of a better term).

Again, I never said the public's common sense shouldn't be a major part of all this. Not once. All I have said is that the public has not shown the ability to use common sense.

Jason, never going to agree, right?

If Big-Macs were illegal then I would be totally with you. I think a better analogy would be Tobacco companys, but to each his own.
