Ok so you all know that I purchased the Sylvania deal from Amazon. Well before I decide to pack this machine up and send er back, maybe someone out here can stear me in the right direction. Ok so I hook the player up, no big deal and I found out after I ordered it, that it had no optical hook up. So I hooked up the coaxal, and when I fire up my receiver, I have to turn on CD input to get sound. Then when it does fire up, it says that it is only playing Pro Logic 2 and not Dolby Digital?
Ok, so what am I doing wrong?? If someone can help me before I start all over again, I would greatly appreciate it. And besides if I ship this back, my wife will homicide me.

you don't have to use the "CD input". does your receiver let you assign the coax and optical ports to the different components?

also, make sure that you play with some of the buttons on your receiver so that the PLII playback is defeated.

what kind of receiver do you have, anyway?

The coaxial output from the player should carry a 5.1 signal to your receiver. Assuming your receiver is capable of handling 5.1 audio, it should be a matter of doing what Eddie suggests: Assign the coaxial input properly in the receiver's setup menu.

Thanks guys, I will do that when I go home. My receiver is a Yamaha, and it is only 3 years old so it is capable of handeling 5.1

One more question, but should'nt my receiver be pushing 5.1 no matter where the coax is routed?

Well in theory if the sound mode has been changed. I know with my Onkyo, I have to click the surround button then it implements DD 5.1. For HDMI audio, I have to make sure the multichannel button is selected for on the HD DVD and Blu-Ray input on the receiver. I think your Yamaha is set up in the same fashion. There should be a stereo and a surround button. There should also be a sound type/sound field, that is how you are getting DPLII. Also you will have to enter the set up inputs on the receiver to assign the coax to whatever input you needs. Also on the Sylvania, you need to go to the set up menu and make sure Bitstream is selected to the audio portion of the player. Bitstream sends DD5.1 to the reciever.

My Onkyo has a similar setup. You have to assign the optical and coax inputs. That took me a while to figure out initially because I never had a receiver before that you could do that on. It's a nice feature once you get used to how to do it.

Biker I have a Yamaha receiver also and I only have one coax connection on mine. First of all try the DVD input instead of CD on the receiver although it shouldn't matter.

Also, I believe you have to change the setting on your bluray player to coax as the default may have the sound on HDMI out. Also when you select coax make sure it's not 2.0 channel, it should be changed to 5.1 on the coax. ALSO, make sure you're player isn't sending out the audio as PCM through the coax because coax can only handle 2 channels of PCM. You may have to change it to bitstream.

Good luck!
