Quote:Thats cool IB. I don't think it's a bad player, I mean with a receiver that decodes DTS HD and DD TRUE HD your all set. But I just think that coax is limited in the amount of signal it can carry compared to optical.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but doesn't the audio bitstream top out at plain old Dolby Digital and DTS when routed through either Coax or Optical? True, both DD and DTS is now transmitted at their highest bitrate (as compared to standard DVD), but the new higher codecs aren't transmitted through either Coax or Optical. Unless you have HDMI input on your receiver, you won't be able to decode DTS HD/MA or DD+/TrueHD.

Yes I was talking strictly about optical and coax. I wasn't talking HDMI. I am trying to find out the max bit rates of both optical and coax.

Not a PS3 or it's guts. The video quality is not great (Especially for DVD), remotes are not compatible, and it substitues for a frying pan (It is noisy and gets way to hot)... However, for a computer I'm surprised it will support many of the audio formats through HDMI.

The Insignia's have both optical and coax. But for HDMI users the player does not decode Dolby Digital True HD or DTS MA. It only bitstreams it. I might be interested in this one.

somebody is smoking something. this panasonic that you speak of is a VERY good player. but it also costs quite a bit more than the ps3. i read a comparison test between the two, and they tied with the samsung having a very slight advantage in image quality. but it only plays blu-ray discs, where the "other" does far more..is the "father of blu-ray" and was still reccomended over the samsung as the "safest" bet. i don't know about you reaggie, but my hd-dvd player is gathering dust. i don't need another dust collector, if the format shall fail due to lack of interest.

like i mentioned above if you took the guts out of a ps3, threw them into a standalone form factor, called it the "boogey woogie 1000", and sold it for the price of these clones (which have sony tech btw.) we would ALL be eating them up.

edit:
when i mention "guts", i am refering to everything the ps3 can do. (movies, games, music, hot dog maker, internet, so on, so forth)
