no one knows who the manufacturer is for the new insignia blu-ray player, but it looks like previous samsung models. it is profile 1.1 but has an ethernet jack. it doesn't have the media card slot like the insignia funai clone, and it is NOT energy-star compliant.

stick with the funai clones, guys.

Don't be force-fed this garbage Blu-Ray player!!!

This should say it all...

Don't buy junk, no matter how cheap it is!!! If we stop patronizing junk products, then maybe they will step it up a notch and stop trying to make a quick buck off of us.

Standardize the 2.0 players and get them to market for under $200. It's not really asking much except for them to stop shafting us as hard as possible for as long as they can by dragging their feet on this. Man, shit like this pisses me off!!!

spoonard,

you need to relax. the bd-live features have been lame, so 1.1 vs 2.0 is really up to the individual buyer. if you're satisfied with watching the stuff encoded on a disc, then 1.1 is sufficient. as far as 1.1 players go, the first-gen funai clones are very reliable.

Spoonard, my Insignia 'Funai Clone' blu-ray player IS NOT GARBAGE, IT IS NOT JUNK. Mine has played without a glitch, without a problem.

Remember, because of the 'blu-ray association' we have players that can't play true PiP and that keep having problems playing any disc it is because of them not being able to get a profile right (even when we are in 2.0 and many 1.0 players still have problems working) that many of us, opt for this cheap alternative.

It is name brands who keep selling 1.0 players and players that will always need updates and updates and more updates (I'm thinking of you PS3). It is name brands who haven't given the consumers a cheap alternative for us to buy...challenge Sony, or Samsung or Panasonic to do a sturdy and working blu-ray player like the Funai Clones...challenge them...

You guys also have to remember that this is all the some people need or can understand. Not everyone has 5.1 or 7.1 Surround sound, not everyone cares about BD-Live, or having their BR player connected to the internet, or having Memory Ports. Some people just want something simple and easy to use.

I wish it did have the the ethernet port, but whatever. It plays movies, and that's what I need. It is solid in construction, and not cheap by any stretch of the nature, The new machine looks like a Samsung, and I would not buy it. Samsung = Garbage. Sorry guys, Spoony is right on this particular player. But the first gens are good.

reaggiep,

the problem is that spoonard posted a pic of the back of the first gen insignia. as mvckalel wrote, none of us have had to stand on our heads to make the funai clones work.

you know what's funny? there aren't any firmware updates for the funais, but they've given me less grief than even my hd-dvd players. (Y)

Who gives a flying scat wether I can chat with some kid half way across the world while I am watching The Dark Knight. All I care about is how the movie looks and sounds. And as long as the movie spins while in the player and projects it's image on my 42 Inch LCD, well thats all that counts. The Sylvania I bought last weekend does just that. I mean come on, we are now going to argue over what you payed for a Blu Ray DVD player?

Aint no one raining on my parade, it is all about the movies..................I LOVES MY SYLVANIA!!!!!!

$250 is too high for Insignia Brand especially for 1.1 profile.

The Panasonic dmp-bd35k is 2.0 profile with great reviews and costs $272 at the moment on amazon.com

After Christmas that is the one I'm gonna snag.

Or what brand it is?
Or what profile it is?
Or whether it can play BD Live?
Or . . . (place your favorite bragging rights here).

If this keeps up I'm bringing out the "broken record"!
