This film was slated for a Nov. 11 release on Region 1, does anyone know what happened with that? I have looked around online and although many sites including imdb and amazon concur with the release date, I took a quick look in stores and on DVDTown's site and there's nothing. Just curious if anyone can shed some light.

Cheers

Hello. Thanks for letting us know. I did a search on DVDEmpire - and there are several editions (with various covers) - NONE IN STOCK as of yet unfortunately. I'll see about adding them to our own DVDTOWN database soon.

It's available at familyvideo.com, which seems to be attractively priced.

As for the movie itself, so-so if you're just entering the genre of spaghetti western... that's mixed with Samurai flavor. For the rest of us: PURE EYE CANDY.

I saw it two years ago in Toronto and really loved it. Back then I wrote:

On a much lighter note, Takashi Miike turns his hand to the spaghetti Western in his hilarious "Sukiyaki Western Django." The film features an all-Japanese cast (except for one mentally challenged American actor) speaking English… sometimes very poorly. I wouldn´t be surprised at all to learn that some of the actors were speaking their lines phonetically. It´s a brilliant choice that makes "Sukiyaki" feel like a true spaghetti Western (where many international actors were dubbed badly into Italian, or tried awkwardly to speak the language). The basic plot is an ironic reworking of "Yojimbo" but the real fun comes from the slapstick set pieces that comprise the bulk of the film. I am not much of a Miike fan (I stopped watching him after "Ichi the Killer"), but I have no reservations about recommending this whacked-out farce.
