Well, kids, I did it! I got rid of the cable TV in favor of HD Dish Network Satellite TV. By doing so I cut my TV bill practically in half (it’s at least a savings of 45% compared to cable’s 999 channels of nothing). The way I see it, most channels are garbage, so if I’m going to pay for garbage then I want to pay the least amount possible.

Before taking the plunge, I did do my research and Dish Network has the best deal going. Unlike Direct TV where your bill goes up anywhere from 30% to 40% after 12-months, Dish Network does not. Plus, the DVR is only $4 a month and delivers the pure joy of being able to record Hi-def movies and television programs – therefore TV does not control my life. Since I opted to get the DVR I get Cinemax (skinemax) for only a penny for one year. I went for one of their HD only packages, but to my surprise you still get some SD channels, as well. I did opt to have locals in HD and added an extra six HD cannels that play movies and sports. Even with the extras I got, I’m still only paying a little over half of what I was paying for cable.

I just had it all installed today and my review on the picture quality is all thumbs up! The picture is amazing and literally no static interference that I would sometimes get on various cable channels. It is a 1080i signal from the box to the TV set and the clarity and detail are simply amazing. I'm watching Gladiator (Glad he ate her) right now and it looks spectacular -- way better picture than I was expecting. The other thing I like with satellite is picking up different time zones of the same channel. It’s really far more convenient than cable ever was, and besides, I can’t stand our greedy, overpriced cable company here in AZ. Any chance I can get to stick it to them makes me happy.

If any of you can get Dish Network in your area, and maybe you’re looking to switch over, please let me know because I have some referral gift cards. These referral cards benefit myself and any new subscriber, so keep me in mind if any of you are looking to switch.

Whoo hoo!!!!

Tim, hopefully the cable companies will get the message that they are ripping consumers off with their cable service that they can't justify when you call them and yell about a charge that they have no clue as to why it's on your bill and you need a transfusion because your bill is so high that you can't send your kids to college and pay the mortgage and you can't buy groceries and gas.

Notice it was just one run on sentence.

I honestly think that I've become desensitized to HD. So much so that I watch poor regular cable so that when I watch HD I have a reason to justify why I spent $2100 on a HD TV.

Tony,

I, too, am getting used to the PQ and I find it easy to tell the difference in some really good HD to the very worst. By far, Universal's HD "Sunrise" gets the #1 honors, IMO. History channel and some TBS have looked pretty crappie, but I understand that just because it's their Hi-Def channel that it does not mean all programming is displayed in HD. I kind of find that a rip with Cable & Satellite, but really not the fault of the provider. It's the TV stations themselves that are to blame for making an HD channel, but really only delivering half their programming in HD. It kind of sucks, but I have to agree that HD PQ is becoming common place with me and I'm able to distinguish good quality from bad. I have gotten spoiled to the point that I can't stand SD channels and those lame black bars on the sides!

By the way, I loved the run-on sentence. Dude, that's actually hard to do carrying on like that in one big sentence! Not only is a run-on sentence complex to read, sometimes it’s just as complex to come up with. LMAO

Tim - Grammar . . . not my thing!
