This means they are meant to be consumer friendly, and with enough features at a comparable price to satisfy those new BD owners who don't want to pay higher prices.
spoonard, do really you think $128 to $150 is considered "high prices" for a Blu-ray player?
Not only is this a great bargain (considering BD player prices over just the last year), but I would bet that some people will buy 2 or 3 of these (if possible) on Black Friday, so they can have an extra for another room, a gift for a relative, the office, etc.
You want high prices? Go play a round of golf, or attend a concert or sporting event, and then tell me $128 is a high price for a BD player in 2008!

View profile »We're all still waiting for the FIRST title to offer significant 2.0 capable content (other than Disney's latest titles). Is 2.0 really a big deal for most of us? Either we just want to watch the movie & deleted scenes (say like Tim Raynor), or we might want a little more (such as commentaries, like myself or Chris Long), but how many us have ever even viewed ALL of the Special Edition content on a BD, much less getting it hooked up to a 2.0 enabled network.

Spoonard, fellow poster, what?? The weakest hardware available would be the same hardware that is in a Panny, Sammy or Sony...this players WORK without any hassles, and at $198 (Magnavox), it is a great buy.
Yes you only have HDMI and no optical out, so what? Also, Profile 2.0, like many of us have said, is only worth on Disney titles...stop the hate...

View profile »Missing your point? Your first post on this thread implied that the $128 Blu-ray player being sold is "JUNK". And now you are implying that this player is supporting the "weakest hardware" available. Oh really?
To enjoy Blu-ray high-definition you need only three pieces of electronics (other than the BD software movie, TV show, or concert) - an HDTV, BD player, and HDMI cable - that's it!
You don't have to even have the player hooked into anything other than the HDTV(!), and you will receive a GREAT HD picture and decent quality sound (depending on your TV's built-in speakers). An external 5.1 (or greater) audio surround system is completely optional. For example, I could turn off my surround sound system, and just watch the Blu-ray HD picture from the player-HDMI-plasma HDTV and still fully enjoy the presentation.
"Weakest hardware"....
Those Funai-clone players are not "junk", just a great value. If they are made with care, then the HD quality is -there- for anyone to enjoy BDs, DVDs, and CDs.
