Before all the anti-Blus get on here, claiming this as the death of Blu Ray - again - that is actually pretty impressive. Considering the economy, and that people have been cutting back on a lot of things for months now, the fact that Blu will only be maybe 10% off the target is very impressive. I would actually say that means that, given the conditions, Blu adoption is picking up at least at the expected rate, if not faster.

I agree, considering the way things are going right now with all the layoffs and the other areas being affected by our economy, missing your target by 10% is not bad at all.

Hopefully the software and hardware vendors that invested into bluray are making enough of a profit (however minor or major it may be) to keep them interested in the format long term.

I wonder how much DVD sales have been affected by the economy?

By the way Hendrix, I had my PS3 set to Automatic for the 1080p/24 setting but when I watched the Clone Wars animated movie yesterday I noticed it looked bad when a spaceship was panning across the screen. It was as if my TV (which is very good at handling these things as you know) couldn't process the image fast enough. So I set the 1080P/24 setting to on and what a difference! I don't know why it would make a difference though. If it's set to Automatic the PS3 should realize the movie is 1080P/24 and push it through regardless but turning it to "On" just made it MUCH easier on the eyes.

Good points Spy and Falcon. Falcon, I always have my PS3 set to ON and never AUTOMATIC regardless if I think it will do it or not.

I think next year will be the real indicator. We aren't that far into the recession yet, and predictions are saying it could last a while. We won't know until things really drag along what the impact will be.

I highly doubt Blu-ray would die (although you never know when these panicky execs will pull the plug on something). If things get bad we might see the release schedule slow down quite a bit though with not as many new titles every week.

Typically movies and entertainment related products do better than other items during a recession so it isn't unexpected that so far anyway things are ok. I better hope this is the case anyway. Blu-ray and DVD are my bread and butter, so if things sink I may be out of a job.
