Got a text this morning from my local DVD shop, which received the dark knight , went and bought the 2 disc special edition, region 1. I checked and double checked, it's the original release.
(im based in europe, some big stores do import the discs prior to the us release in region1 and sell them, had the same thing happening with Pirates3 and iron man)

Currently im on a sony 32" CRT wide screen (which is proper size for my viewing distance) which is also calibrated.

I Found the image to be quite amazing actually, and with blacks that don't look crushed and sustain detail, at least that's how it looks on my set.

I am not surprised actually because the dark knight went through the optical process for post-production. Meaning there was no DI work done to the film (scanning the film to 2k, color correcting it and then printing the same down converted image to a theater print) So the full resolution of both s35 and 65mm was kept intact. Apparently they did all the color adjustments the good ol' way. Either on-set or with a chemical process.

As for audio, i can't judge cause my center and right speaker midranges are for some reason flawed and clip. i double checked by switching them to make sure it's not the amp. Phewww... i should've went for JBL's.

What's the coolest release? I'm getting this for my brother's b-day. As always, I'm waiting to see what BB, CC or Target have to offer, but what are your thoughts?

He loved the movie, thanks to me. Oddly enough, he wasn't interested at all when he saw the teaser, go figure...

those of you who don't like the idea of shifting aspect ratios can get the two-disc dvd to watch the imax sequences separately, but the two-disc dvd has fewer extras than the already slim blu-ray.
