Yes, this will be DVDTOWN's official "what ever happened to" thread. The topic in question can be a person, place or thing -- meaning actors, old game consoles and Packard Bell Computers (no Jimi Love, this is not your queue to deliver a spew salad on what actually did happen to Packard Bell Computers). The idea here is to discuss people and things that have long gone past into history and where it or them are now.

Today's topic is Steven Seagal: As you know, Steven was a big hit at one time with Warner Bros. (Under Seige movies), but when his contract was not renewed in 97, Seagal went the way of "direct to video" films, which I can assure you are far more hideous than the trash he turned out with WB. So, what ever happened to Steven Seagal?

Apparently, he will be making a reality show come-back on A&E as a real life cop in New Orleans.

In my opinion, some actors (if I dare to even call Seagal an actor) just need to go away gracefully. It isn't like we haven't seen reality TV try to revitalize a "has been" career. While I think the idea might have some possible entertaining moments, another part of me feels it is just more wasted television space. In other words, Steven, don't go away mad, just go away.

According to IMDb, Seagal released three movies direct to video in 2008 and has three more in production. So, I guess he's not starving.

But look at Jean-Claude Van Damme. His new "JCVD" movie is getting rave reviews, with most reviewers surprised that he could even act. The movie might have resurrected his career.

Packard Bell? Well, let's see....

OK OK - Steven Seagal... I can confirm your info above, as the USA Today for today (Life section), summarizes as follows...

Steven Seagal is Louisiana 'Lawman' - Get ready for STEVEN SEAGAL: LAWMAN, a reality series on A&E that will chronicle the actor's life in law enforcement. For almost 20 years, Seagal has been working as a fully commissioned deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana. Seagal says he has been working all this time "under most people's radar. I've decided to work with A&E on this series now because I believe it's important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in Louisiana."

I liked Seagal in that action flick against the "big, bad Oil industry" - On Deadly Ground [DVD] » - lots of cool action. Of course, I'm pro big oil, so didn't buy the 'message' from his character's speeches, but it was a fun flick. I like the environment as much as most people, and I love oil and energy very much too.

Seagal?
Pistol Whipped was a pretty good one, if you like Seagal, and you can't forget about the Cockpuncher.

Aside from Seagal's atrocious acting, I don't think the guy has ever had that much appeal to the camera. I mean, the guy always looks constipated or like he's trying to hold a fart in.

I think he was a fight choreographer, not sure who suggested he get in front of the camera, he certainly doesn't look to much like a leading man. He had a decent run of successful movies though.

I’ll agree with Jimi Love that “On Deadly Ground” is a fun action film. I think it’s the only Seagal DVD I own, and since I spent time in Alaska it might explain why I enjoyed it. However, unlike Jimi Love, I am NOT a fan of big oil and rather liked and supported the closing messages of the movie. I think big oil should rot in hell for what they’ve done to the American consumer (the entire world for that matter) for over the past four-years. Sure is odd how we have a new President elect and all the sudden those gas prices are dropping to levels I have not seen in six-years. Hmmmm, I wonder . . . . ???

Marked For Death = Best Steven Segal movie ever.

I would love to see Segal and Van Damme, in their prime, go at each other to see who was the best.

The one thing I never like about him was in his movies he never got kicked or punched, no one never touched him. That's why I never became a Seagal fan. Heck, even Bruce Lee got punched and kicked, Jet Li as well.
