That's funny about the BD-Live crap. I still have to copy the special features yet. DL BD media is still too expensive...

I had no idea that was happening with BD-Live. I can see it being logged if you actually chose to view online extras (which I have not yet on any BD disc) but to actually track how many times you view the movie, or whatever else you do with the disc, without your consent is not good.

I'm turning off the BD-Live thing on my PS3.

Falcon,

Didn't we discuss this about a year ago during the closing days of The Format War? I seem to remember somebody comparing BD live to the failed divX format in the early days of DVD which was hooked up to a modem and sent info to whomever when you watched the disk. I recall that Sony, Disney and Circuit City heavily promoted this format. Steve

Happy Thanksgiving Folks!!

We may have discussed it but I don't remember it being confirmed anywhere that we were being monitored by the studios even when we just watch the movie and not use BD-Live.

Interesting news indeed. Happy Thanksgiving to you too Steve and the rest of you as well.

"I recall that Sony, Disney and Circuit City heavily promoted this format. Steve"

That's INCORRECT (wrong) about Sony, who along with Warner were majorly OPPOSED to Circuit City's DIVX PPV-DVD format, and strongly supported "open DVD" over DIVX (Digital Video Express)... no Sony or Warner title ever appeared on Divx (which lasted about 9 months, from the fall of 1998 until the following summer, June 16, 1999 when CC decided to stop selling the players). Discs were allowed to continue playback for another 2 years (summer 2001), when the entire operation, phone-modem, billing, etc was fully shut down.

I stand corrected. Hey, it was 10 years ago.
