My Panasonic DMP-BD35K has arrived and I have had some time to spin some discs.

First impressions are very positive and I'm glad that I went for the Panasonic.

Pro.:
Fast and responsive (Only marginally slower than the PS3)
Great audio output options
Amazing picture quality
Has played all discs so far
Can be upgraded to BD-Live
Easy and understandable setup menus

Con.:
Remote not backlit
Display on the player a bit blurry for my taste

Oh, and the fact that it costs $234 on Amazon.com makes it a very sweet deal as well.

Full review next week.

Henning, let us know if you notice a difference in picture quality between the BD35 and the PS3. I'm very interested to know as I was thinking about getting the BD35 myself.

Thanks in advance and looking forward to your review.

I just got one a week and a half ago after seeing the price at 250 and hearing the great reviews on it. Sadly it dropped price a few days later after it shipped. Still i find it worth the 250. Though I was wondering one thing. I tried to figure it out, but to no avail. Maybe you can help me on this. I have a few older films with full screen and with the Panasonic you get the gray bars on the side. Is there a way to make them black? The gray is a bit distracting is all. If not then I'll just have to get used to it. From what I've read Panasonic does it because with gray there is less of a chance of screen burn. Don't know if that's true, just the only thing i found when searching how to change the color.

Also is it common for Blu-Ray players to run hot on the bottom. After watching a movie its kinda hot on the bottom. Since it has a fan I'm thinking it should be fine. Not as hot as my Onkyo 605. Had to get some receiver fans for that. Seeing as people on this forum have had Blu-Ray longer than me I figure someone should know.

Revolution,

I don't have the BD35, but I do have both the BD30 and BD50, and they never run hot. What's more, I have an Onkyo 705, and it never runs hot. It gets mildly warm toward the top back after many hours of constant use, but that's about it.

Are you sure you're giving these pieces of equipment proper ventilation? I mean, you don't have them stuffed into a tiny cabinet or anything, do you? They should have plenty of space above them and behind them to keep cool.

Ya they have ventilation. I give each piece of equipment its own shelf and plenty of room. Well the Blu-Ray is more warm than anything. I chose the wrong word for that. Its also only on the bottom. The top, back, and sides are fine. As for the Onkyo I remember reading how the 605 ran warm. When i first got it I checked this statement and after a couple of hours or one movie with the volume up it was really warm on the verge of being hot. So i bought a cheap 15 dollar fan that sucks the air out of the unit. now the metal stays cool on the covering.

Anyone that has this player: I'd like to see the answers to Revolutions questions too.

Mine did not get annoying grey. There is a setting where you can set if you want the image to have a darker or lighter feel. Perhaps you have this set to lighter?

Also, I'm almost done with the review. Should be able to get it online in a day or two. Sorry for the delay.

nope not the darker/lighter setting. I got the blu-ray of Casablanca this weekend and that had black bars. Seems only full screen dvds have gray bars. Blu-ray full screen has black.
