NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Wal-Mart employee in New York state's Long Island died on Friday when a throng of shoppers surged into the store and physically broke down the doors, a police spokesman said.

The 34-year-old man was at the entrance of the Valley Stream Walmart store when it opened at 5 a.m. local time and was knocked to the ground, the police report said.

The exact cause of death was still to be determined by a medical examiner.

Four shoppers, including a 28-year-old pregnant woman, were also taken to local hospitals for injuries sustained in the incident, police said.

This is very sad news. ** Place Master of obvious picture here **

Why does this need to happen? Why do people still feel the need to go stressed-out-nuts with Christmas shopping? I don't think trampling a human being to death is a very decent way to show Christmas spirit. Why can't people simply mail out some Christmas cards, get together with friends and family and kick back with some drinks, games and/or movies? The way I see it, I buy my daughter crap all year around, why should I stress myself with the hell of shopping all for one day of the year? Not that I'm a grinch or anything like that, and I enjoy the decorating, the tree, the cookies, etc. I just feel we've all become brainwashed with the whole shopping thing as something we HAVE TO do when in reality it isn't even neccessary. IMO, if you truly have any Holiday spirit, then just spending time with people you love should be damn well good enough.

Phew I'm glad I didn't go shopping. I lose my faith in humanity everytime I hear these kinds of stories.

I remember somebody getting killed over freaking furbies. Its just nuts.

..i hate christmas these days, it has lost all meaning. there was none of this "insane" behavior when i was a child. what a way to die. i hope all are brought up on charges and sent away for life.

I see it's ok to call it Christmas again too...whew! I thought we'd be calling what I remembered as Christmas just plain old "Holiday." Ok, good, glad to see that's been cleared up!

These people are sick. So they save a few measly dollars on some crap item. Is that enough to warrant trampling some poor guy to death? "The cause was unknown at the time," yea right. He was probably stomped on by a group of SOBs who just couldn't pass up some unheard of deal.

Agreed blade...regardless of the sales that most stores have, the meaning for all this winter holidays are gone. Being together, in peace, thankful for the life we have, and the things we don't...but no. Parents 'need' to get their children useless crap that will be picked up by Wall-Es, instead of making sure they appreciate everything else in life...oh well, I can't be giving any advices, I'm not a dad...yet...

I prefer referring to November/December/January as "The Holidays" b/c Christmas Day isn't the only day that is celebrated during this time of the year. Plus, there are many people who don't celebrate anything at all.
