hoodaguy is right.

even if you only bought the minimum number of blu-rays, the price is less than $13.50 per disc.

Hey guys,

Sorry about my last few posts. I was in one of my peace, loving moods and just wanted everyone to get along. I'll go back to my usual "bully" self, and besides, it's much more fun!

I shop at Amazon! Anybody got a problem with that!?

Firstly, Chef, I've been around here a lot longer than you, and I started this thread. I do not have any vested interest in people joining CH, other than that I would like my fellow board posters to be able to get the same deals I do. Hood has posted the numbers, and mine look about the same (though I never buy a regular price disc, but that's another story...). All the details have been laid out clear as day for you, but you would rather throw accusations and remain ignorant. Fair enough. As hood said, no one cares if you join or not. Those that have will go on paying $13.09 a disc (including shipping and tax)., while you pay $20 to $30 including tax at HMV. Knock yourself out. You aren't doing anything here but throwing out assumptions, not facts. Those prices are the facts, whether you choose to believe them or not. I don't care if CH is losing money with those prices - all I care about is that I continue to pay half what most others pay. I respect anyone who chooses not to join because they have had a bad experience, or don't like the idea of a membership, but you're just being immature and ignorant.

And Tim, the "limited" selection is only limited in a few ways. Firstly, catalogue titles are hit and miss - some are available, and others by the same studio are not, for whatever reason. For example, you can get Die Another Day and From Russia With Love, but you can't get Thunderball. Secondly, Blus released by smaller distributors and Disney are not available, but the Disney thing is only because they have their own club, with much higher prices. Nearly all major studio new releases are available, and could be pre-ordered for the $11.58 price. This week I'm getting Appaloosa and Mirrors. Next week is Domino, Unfaithful, and Repo, though Domino was 9.98.

Well, for me, I don't like limitations of any kind when purchasing Blus, so CH probably wouldn't be my thing. Hell, I've sent email complaints to Best Buy for their limited selection, so for me it's really an issue of library size and reliability of product delivery -- more so than price. However, if you and others are pleased with the CH service, then I'm very happy you have found something that works for you. Plus, it is very nice and informative that you let us know there are other options (CH) out there when it comes to a good price. Nothing wrong with that.

Okay Peeps, I can't believe I'm being accused of being a "CH salesperson" simply because I actually had something "nice" to say about their new site...don't get me wrong, I too have had a few bad episodes with them (geting dvds I declined, receiving the wrong price for a dvd, etc) when I was a dvd club member, but I call and they fix it! I personally think the prices are worth sticking around for! Do you ever notice that we love to complain about what is wrong with a company, but when they actually get stuff right, we often don't even mention it? Geez man--lighten up folks! And as far as I recall--giving ones opinion is not a crime

Personally, solely based on their history I would never deal with Columbia House. It seems to be working out for you guys so more power to you.

This is my forth or fifth attempt with CH...I filled out a request for a bunch of Blu-rays and all I got was a stack of coupons

Haven't decided whether I am going to cancel or continue...it looks like CH Canada just isn't ready to support Blu-ray just yet

I got two of those coupons when I joined. I thought it was great, as it let me choose better titles from inside than the limited selection from the startup titles.

Although they don't carry every title, they do have most major releases. I buy what I can for dirt cheap, and then get what I can't elsewhere at places like Amazon. It's win-win.

That coupon thing is actually a good deal. There is a ridiculously limited selection at start up, but there are exponentially more when you join. I have had the problem with receiving the wrong price, but it's always clearly marked on the invoice, so I've called a few times, told them what it should have been, and they've fixed it - no questions asked. Twice I have had a Blu title not arrive promptly that I had pre-ordered, but they sent a notice saying they were out of stock, and both times the disc came within a week after the notice. Once they even offered me a free disc to make up for it. Anyway, if this all sounds like your thing, join and take advantage of the sales, if not, and you're more comfortable buying somewhere else, so be it.

I joined online (through the Blu-ray link) on December 1st and just got my package in the mail. I received five certificates, as apparently all my titles (except one, which is out-of-stock) are "not yet available for sale" (probably because those were Fox titles that I selected off their website that were later removed.

So, I thought this could work out pretty well, as I could get a few titles that I want even more. Well, it doesn't look like it: in the booklet that I received only six Blu-rays are available as new enrollment selections: 300 (Got it), Fantastic Four Silver Surfer (Got It), Jumper (um, no), Rambo (nah), Twister (uh-uh), and T2 (Got It). Checking titles online now using my membership number, I don't see any symbols to tell me which titles are available to use with my certificates. I know that selling these is an option, but...seriously? CH puts an ad asking people to join buying Blu-rays and none of the ones I ordered are available now, and there's only a handful that I can replace them with? Ridiculous.

And I missed the deadline for the 60% off and free shipping option because it took so long (despite asking customer service in December about my membership status and being told that it was still being processed), so I guess I can either hope that they do that deal again some day and make my membership worthwhile or just forget it and cancel my membership. Even if I sell the five that I get for free, that's a lot of time and energy to end up with just four discs that I actually want (again, unless one of those Boxing Day-type sales shows up again one day).
