So, My string of bad luck continues. I have been having a tough time trying to get my PC to boot the last few days. Anyways today I said screw it, I'm going to get to the bottom of this problem. Well, as I started to start the computer today, I smell that raunchyness of burning circuitry and smelly plastic. I pull my computer out of my desk to find smoke billowing out from the motherboard... I shut the computer off right away infear that it may catch on fire... I let it sit there for a mintue then decide to reboot it again, to find out where the problem is coming from, next thing I know, the side wall of when the card rests is melting... One final poof of smoke happens and the computer F'ing dies... I pull my case out to find that that peice of crap ATI card has decide to f'up for good, also taking my motherboard with it... When I phone ATI to let them know of the situation, the girl asks for photo's of everything. I quickly grabbed my camera, and take photo's to send to them. They at this point may give me some coverage. Don't know until I send the semi melted card in... Now I have been fighting all day to get my old Asus board and Athlon 2800+ running again... It's runs ok, but damn slow compared to the Dual Core 3.2ghz I had... F, I hate ATI right now. No HD movies for now... DVD's still work on this old box...

sorry reaggie.

a new dawn shall arise. i will fly the flag at half mast tomorrow in honor of another piece of fallen equipment.

btw:
isn't it funny how we care about certain electronic components so much until they become obsolete? this wouldn't bother you at all a few years from now. would it? just trying to look at the glass as being half full.

edit:
posting the photos of the damage here wouldn't be a bad idea....get my drift.

That totally blows Reaggie. I had a video card do that to me once, but it never fryed my motherboard. I can't remember what brand it was but I know it wasn't ATI or NVIDIA. It was some competitor brand and the first time I had a video card that had a processor with a cooling fan. A year after owning it, I noticed the same thing -- a strange smell of something burning and my monitor basically went to crap. I open the case and found the cooling fan melted over the processor.

I used ATI cards for a while, but at the time I didn't like their prices for the higher end models. Not to mention, you need the right motherboard to handle any ultra advanced VC in the first place. Now I use a NVIDIA 8800 on my gaming system and have been very pleased with its performance. Online games play very smooth with very minimal glitches. Local games, like Roller Coaster Tycoon, play very smooth and the sensitivity is lightening fast.

OMG!! My nVidia Quadra FX540 graphics card is acting up. It seems the fan is about to go out. I disconnected the fan and it works with my monitor, but when I watch a movie streamed from Netflix and watch it on my HDTV it freezes my desktop. So I'm left with no choice but to leave the fan running eventhough it's making strange sounds. Oh well, time to get a new card.

ReaggieP, I have an old ATI All-In-Wonder PCI that's still working. ATIs are good cards, sorry you got a bad one.
