Both are supposed to be the best tvs of their size, but the Vizio is 100$ less. Which one would you get?

id go with the the samsung, i think they make some of the best lcd tv's, vizio is good i sell a lot of them, i work at sams club, i also own a 42 inch vizio. Only thing i see bad about the vizios is the contrast ratio, it isnt all that great, i think at best its 1000-1, which to me isnt enough. samsung contrast are usually really high. I would look at the tv's refresh rate to, samsungs are usually around 5ms and vizios are around 7-8ms. only reason i bought my 42 inch vizio was because it was open box and i only paid 300 bucks lol

The best thing to do is go to the store and check them both out for yourself. I'd go with the one that has the higher contrast ratio though.

The first thing that came to mind with Vizio is their black level (sucks, IMO). I agree with Blade, go with Samsung.

In my opinion... for the $600 to $700 cost of either of those TVs you'd be better off with a 42" Panasonic plasma, which I've seen on sale for between $599 to $700 lately. You get a bigger image (42" vs 32"), better contrast ratio, much better black levels (important for "lights out" viewing), and without the effects of LCD image blur (noticeable by some due to LCD's one-on, one-off pixel tech). Plus, today's plasma TVs will last longer (before reach half-brightness) than the bulbs in LCD - and Panasonic claims their plasmas last a minimum of 70,000 hours on up to 100,000 hours (that's 8 to 9 hours a day of viewing for 20 years!).

Buy 42" plasma instead.
