Tim, I think Favreau was counting on the audience believing certain notions, except this was a coalition of terrorists, was it not? And the main guy seemed to be knowledgeable. I never did buy the conceit of middle-aged Stark as the naive victim either. In this day and age he learns the lesson that his weapons can be used to hurt innocents.

Quote:if "the dark knight" is "only" a comic-book movie, then why are the fan boys praising it to high heaven?

you guys should be happy that the movie's detractors are taking it as seriously as we are.

Why do you seem bothered and surprised that fan boys are praising TDK to high heaven? I believe you once said you consider IM and Lee's Hulk the best comic book movies. I'm fine with that.

You as a detractor are merely a Marvel/IM fan boy hater yourself. That's what it boils down to. I think what might bother you is that more of the general public has embraced TDK. Imagine that, the public going gaga over a Batman movie, because that's never happened before. First time for everything I guess. What I find ironic and amusing is Favreau himself is a fan of Nolan's work and his Batman movies. In the end, everyone has a great movie about their favorite superhero. That's all that should matter. Right?

I seriously doubt that Eddie has any bias towards Marvel or DC. As far as I know, I don't even think he collects comic books, but I could be wrong. Eddie is just the kind of guy that demands a better sense of perfection in movies. Besides, TDK is a much longer film and therefore delivers more opportunity to present several flaws. I can assure you that Eddie's opinions are solely based on film itself and not whether it's based on what might be one of his favorite comic book characters. Had "Iron Man" turned out to be a complete disaster, Eddie would have no problem tearing it a new a-hole.

Many consider "Hulk" a complete disaster, except some people.

jswell,

joker thought that dent was batman after dent's press conference, which takes place AFTER the fundraiser.

i've bought one comic book (literally one issue) in my life, and of the ones that i've read, i've been bored to tears. i'm not a marvel fanboy.

although ang lee's "hulk" is based on a comic-book character, he and his team made the movie fit into lee's life-long theme of parents who have negative influences on their children (particularly fathers on sons). this is due to lee's own struggles with his parents, who almost disowned him at one point in time. i don't consider the movie in the same light as other comic-book adaptations.

Eddie, Joker tells Batman he thought he was Dent during the interrogation and references the fundraiser.

jswell,

yes, he references the fundraiser--b/c he referred to the way that batman jumped after rachel.

Exactly my point, which underscores he thought Dent and Batman were one and the same.

except for the ballerina's idle musings at the four-person dinner, no one thought that dent was batman until the press conference.

Wrong. The Joker tells Batman he thought he was Dent for a while, the way he threw himself after Rachel, BEFORE the press conference.
