Just got my PS3...was waiting for me when I got home at 5 tonight. Had to do some chores for the wifey before I got to dive in. Needless to say, I love the results!! I sampled some BDs...NIN's Beside You in Time, Hellboy and Top Gun. Then threw in a couple of SDs, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Star Wars Episode III. The upconversion looks great! Better than my Samsung DVD player w/HDMI.

Needless to say, I have a question

I have my old receiver for now, a Pioneer 1014TX. There are 2 optical inputs in the back, both of which are used for the Dish Network HD DVR and the PS2. I thought I had THREE inputs for TOSLINK, but the third I saw was a DIGITAL OUT.

My receiver has an input for TOSLINK in the front, and I don't mind using it, but for some reason, I can't get sound from it!! I tried assigning it, but it is unassignable...only the ones in the rear are. It's labeled as VIDEO 2, and when I select that, nothing!

Anyone have any siggestions??

For now, I am relegated to using it in the place of the PS2 and swapping the cables when I use each. I mostly listen to music when I play sports games, but there are a few games I like to hear sound out of, so switching may become a nuisance after a while.

Thank you much! Looking forward to some movie watching tomorrow night when I have a remote control.

Hey, yea thats right. I'll have to check for a coax cable. Duh.

I know about the Dualshock, but the cord is way too short to reach my sitting area, and I was just sampling the PQ and my TV settings. Tonight's Monday Night Football anyway, can't miss that!!

Thanks!

Cord? The controller is wireless when you're not charging it.

Yup, sure is! My dumba$$ was using it plugged in, cursing the fact that I'd have to buy a wireless one today. This morning, whilst showering, I was thinking to myself..."wait, that stupid things gotta be wireless!"

So, I checked and it was

I do my best work in the washroom. It's amazing some of the things I have thought of in there.

Congrats on the PS3, there's so much more to it than just movies. You can download games on the Playstation store, trailers, demos, wallpapers, themes, etc. Plus!! You can save pics and home videos to the PS3 and watch them on your TV. It's such a great device.

What kind of games can you download? I haven't had a chance to check out anything besides the movies I stuck in quickly. When I changed the input selector on my TV to the PS3, I didn't change the picture settings, and for a while I was like..."What the...??" as the PQ was horrible. Dropping in 2 SDVDs made it even worse. The picture was horrible. Then I figured I'd check the contrast, etc... The contrast was set to 100! And everything else was screwed up.

Needless to say, a few tweaks later, I was pleased!

By the way, anyone know how I can get my front inputs to work? I have one for optical and it won't let the audio play. It works, however, when I have RCA cables plugged into the Audio L & R for my iPod, but when I tried it at first with the PS3, it did nothing!

Thanks!

It sounds like you need ot change the audio settings on your PS3, you probably have the audio set to go out through the HDMI cable as the default.

I just changed the Wallpaper on my PS3 yesterday to a Street Fighter one I downloaded for FREE from the Playstation store. Some nice free themes and wallpapers on there.

Also you can download HD movie trailers on there as well. It will take a little time but you should check out all the freebies there.

Oh and make sure your PS3 is set to 1080P if your TV can accept the signal.

I do have the PS3 set to TOSLINK or Optical for Audio, and video through HDMI. 1080p is also set and is being utilized...looks incredible!

I just can't seem to figure out the sound aspect of it when the optical cable goes in the front. It's weird. It works fine in the back.
