The sound pops in and out, music in some places is too loud, and you can't hear the dialogue. Other times its the other way around. WTF is this all about.

Regardless, I'm taking the disc back to Circuit city where I bought it and exchanging it out. This is a joke especially with a movie of this calibre.

"The Dark Knight" does have a rather robust bass that tends to get in the way of the dialogue at times. I did not hear anything that "pops in and out," however, nor could I in any way describe the sound as "terrible." It sounds about the way I remember it from a motion-picture theater, with a very wide dynamic range.

It is possible that for some people the increased dynamics, along with the overzealous bass, could put them off, especially those people not used to it or those whose subwoofers are already set too high. However, bass fans will love "The Dark Knight." I thought it was too much, but on my system, I really had no serious audio issues.

I haven't received my copy yet, but I've seen a lot of reviews praising the sound. Is your firmware fully up to date? That might be a cause for the issue.

Also, it's a Warner Bros. disc so you probably have to go into the menu and select the TrueHD since they usually have Dolby Digital as the default. I still have no clue why they don't have the high-definition sound for a high-definition format as the default, though. Makes more sense to me (and all of the other studios apparently) that way.

Geeze people, invest in a decent sound system!!!

My Onkyo has no issues whatsoever. I have three subs, and everything sounds great!

Three subs?? Can you do that with the Onkyo receivers?

Trust me gentlemen I have a fine sound system, a very nice 1080p 52 inch TV, and a sony bd 2.0 player. There is something wrong with the audio on the disc. Its especially apparent at the beginning of the movie right out of the gate.

Regardless, I've seen several other people complaining on the internet about this.

mvckalel, Yeah, certain stores sell audio splitters for dedicated audio such aas subs. I use one two way off the reciever, then I use the passive output on another sub at the front to feed the other front sub. two in the front and one in the rear.

So far from what I have seen, it appears to be Pioneer and Sony receivers.

Haven't had a chance to throw mine in yet to see what the purported issue is, but...

High Def Digest gives it a 5/5. John gave it am 8/10, along with his own comments. Methinks the "problem" is being exaggerated.

Good luck. Unless I miss my guess, a retailer having severe financial problems will not take a disc back for anything but a straight exchange. You may get lucky my money is still on no, though.

Time to go throw mine in...

ADDENDUM: I just watched the Batman/Joker battle in the middle of the movie and then flipped around to dialogue-intense sequences. Yes, it was lower in volume, as expected. Isn't it possible your ears became accustomed to the loudness and had to readjust when the volume lowered?

Not really, Jason. If that were the case I'd be complaining about "Iron Man" or "The Incredible Hulk", just to name a couple. As I mentioned in the other thread, this is the only Blu-ray were I have noticed a big problem with the dynamics being way too wide. Not to mention, music volume drowning out dialog is just plain bad sound editing, and there were a couple spots where that happened. And as far as someone saying to buy a better sound system, that's a cop-out excuse if I ever heard one. The audio should be acceptable no matter what receiver one owns. I shouldn't have to upgrade to Onkyo just because of one single movie -- the disc should accommodate for all sound system types.
