I know I don't have the capabilities ot play hi def audio with my older receiver, but on the PS3, there is a Display function that shows you the sound format selected, and it's accompanying kbps. The English DolbyTrueHD option is 448 kbps, while the other 3 are 640 kbps. Any reason why this is so? Two of the other DolbyTrueHD soundtracks I've listened to (TMNT, The Dark Knight) and checked were 640. Die Hard 2 (dts-hd) was 1.5 mbps.

Just curious why us English speaking folks get shafted here. Or am I missing something?

Italy, even though you're selecting Dolby TrueHD, if you're system cannot handle the full bandwidth (which is WAY higher but I can't remember how high) your system will use the Dolby Digital core track (which is Dolby Digital like on DVD's). The peak bandwidth on Dolby Digital is 640 kbps and regular DTS has a peak of 1.5 kbps which is why people preferred DTS tracks on DVD's.

When you're listening to DTS HD and your system cannot take it all in it will give you the core DTS track.

If I have confused or I'm incorrect someone here will hopefully clear it up.

Hey Falcon, thanks for the reply. I do have one question though. If I would only get the core Dolby track at 640 kbps, why is it only registering 440 kbps for the English DolbyTrue HD? It displays the other tracks, Spanish, Portuguese, and the French, at 640.

I even threw in my Superbit DVD and the DTS track showed 700-something, still higher than the Blu-ray.

And...what is the kbps or mbps on a full DolbyTrue HD track if connected to an HDMI receiver that can decode it?
