Now would be a good time for one of those Master of the Obvious pics. I remember predicting a year ago that the ps3 would win the format war for Sony at the expense of the gaming console war.

IT goes to show you that most users were looking for Blu-Ray movie playback mostly.

I am one of those users who bought the PS3 mainly for the Blu-Ray movie capability. After pinning all of my hopes on HD-DVD and then being sucker punched after Blu-ray won the HD battle I got my 80gig last year on a Wal-Mart black friday deal where they offered 15 blu-ray movies free with the purchase of the console. (Plus I still got the mail in movies from Sony) I was sold - still love the console but after counting my games ~6 PS3 vs. ~30+ XBOX360 games. I think Sony blew it not because of price but because of the lesser than robust videocard implemented and the extreeme difficulties that game programmers have had in developing for the console. Bet you next time around Sony will have an extreemly different focus back to their gaming roots.

I agree with the fact that PS3 is the most powerful "computing tool" out there. But the fact is, console gamers dont give a @#$% about console power as long as it deliver great graphics, awsome gameplay and clear sound. Also, the fact that the game libraries of the 360 and the Wii are way bigger and more diversified is just a cherry on the sunday.

As for the Blu-ray performances of the PS3 I have to say that I'm not impressed either. Image is not as crisp and as colorful than on a 150$ sharp bluray.

Good luck with the 400$ powerhouse, Sony.

Why does everyone keep saying the PS3 is "the most powerful" anything? It's RSX chip (GeForce 7800) video card that pushes LESS triangles (the building blocks of polygons) than the XBox 360's Xenos (ATi Radeon HD 2000/3000) video card. And it's being found out that todays middle class video cards can run circles around the Cell proc that powers the PS3 when it comes to pure number crunching.

i found myself only playing two games on the ps3, vs like 15 i own on the 360box. so i sold my ps3 on ebay, and get a 200$ SA player, and put 250 back in my pocket

This is not really a suprise. I love Sony products except the PS3.
It was too expensive at the outset $600, then to win the format war they reduced the price but removed features like ps2 compatibility which for me was big selling point of the ps2 to play old ps1 games. I guess the data was correct with the format war that folks actually used their ps3's as blu ray players which was the reason for the purchase. Now that the standalone blu ray players cost less and work basically just as good as the ps3, the ps3 needs great games but the wii is the thing now among kids and families, and the xbox 360 is cheaper and has the best games that the ps3 has and they look the same. Well for Sony it was all about blu ray and they won the battle of the formats but will lose the console war.

You better tell Leadtek this quickly, since they think that a scaled down PS3 cell processor with only 4 cells (Toshiba's SpursEngine) can sell as a computer graphics card for over $300!
