View profile »I'm going to assume that most of the disc scratching cases that aren't from moving the console while playing a game is caused by the Hitachi disc drive used in older 360s.
I use to have an old Premium 360 with a POS Hitachi disc drive, it didn't scratch my game discs but it was loud as hell and it stopped reading discs after a few months.
Scratching discs/not being able to read them are common reported problems with the Hitachi disc drives.
Personally I think slot loading disc drives like the Wii has are better than regular old disc drives.

View profile »However, this is nothing new. The first onslaught of first generation had bad drives too. Two of three i bought went bad. At least those didn't scratch discs(they just wouldn't read one period).
I keep coming back for more abuse though because LIVE and all the games Microsoft have are the best.
