Eddie, what do you know about this Olevia blu-ray players at Target? They're $150 this week...are they part of our Funai club?

olevia is a target store brand. i have not heard anything about olevia's blu-ray players, though i doubt that they're one of the funai clones.

jose,

if that's really a re-branded memorex, then forget it. over at HDD, people have reported that many discs won't play due to firmware problems (mostly fox titles, though some warner titles are eating it, too).

funais--no firmware updates, no problems. (Y)

Stay tuned for Memorex to get heavily into the Blu market now that VHS is dead...bring on the crappy players that look like they belong at your Grandma's house. (At least you won't have to set the time for her like a VCR...now you just have to explain BD Live and audio codecs )

I bought one of those Memorex players from Woot a few weeks ago. I have it hooked up to a new Visio in my bedroom I bought at WallyWorld for very short money. I have played 5 or 6 movies on it, both bd and sd, with no issues whatsoever. It bears no resemblance to the Olivia the front panel. back panel and remote are all very different. I installed the new firmware update from their website a couple of days ago and everything is working fine. The build quality is actually surprisingly good certainly not up there with my Panasonic BDP30, but well worth it for the bedroom.
