They'll still be selling blank VHS tapes and VCRs for a while though, correct?

CE companies will still make DVD/VHS combo machines for a very long time. In that way the format is still alive.

You can have my S-VHS machines when you pry them from my cold, dead hands!

I still have 2-1/2 machines on the go...mainly for pulling achive shows off of tape to record on DVD and a handful of commercially sold tapes simply because they have a certain memory associated with them.

But, in the not too distant future, these remaining machines will pass and I will have my archives on a portable hard drive...once I invest the year to transfer them

Well, I beg to differ in opinion somewhat with this news.

While VHS is no longer a mainstream format with a higher profit stream, there are STILL TITLES available for sale and new! You can buy VHS titles from Time/Life, Reader's Digest, Heartland of America, etc. Also, you can often receive a "demo" VHS video from a commercial (or other advertisement) when it can be requested by the consumer in DVD or VHS videotape (for example, the company Sleep Mattress does this among others).

While it's true that the home video market now only supports DVD, Blu-ray, PSP, Download/PPV/Steaming, and portable digital copy, you can occasionally find a program being advertised on DVD and VHS, like, for example, Country Music videos/concerts (from Ernest Tubb's Record Shop, etc).

And blank tapes are still found in most drugstores, like Walgreens, etc.

But, yeah, it's kinda of DEAD for the most part.
