LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – "Mamma Mia!" replaced "The Dark Knight" as the top-selling DVD in the United States, according to Nielsen VideoScan data issued Wednesday.
The Batman sequel, released December 9, remains the top-selling video release of the year, with an estimated worldwide total of 13.5 million units sold its first week out, 1.7 million of them on the nascent Blu-ray Disc format.
On trade publication Home Media Magazine's rental chart, top honors went to "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," which also bumped "The Dark Knight" to No. 2. "Mamma Mia!" debuted at No. 3.
"Dark Knight" remained the No. 1 Blu-ray Disc seller for the second week, according to Nielsen VideoScan. "The Mummy" debuted at No. 2, with "Mamma Mia!" at No. 3.

The deeper we dive into recession, the stupider the public gets!
What on earth is to like in that film? The songs in there are songs you've heard OVER AND OVER again. Even worse, the vocals couldn't be worse (notably pierce brosnan's performance close to the end, where he does his duet with streep next to the church. the man is screaming!) and the entire "plot" of a daughter inviting all three of her possible dads so she can surprise her ex-harlot mother is weaker than the choreographies in this farse.

Mamma Mia was fun. Period. Best time I had in the theater all year. Was it the best movie of the year? Not by a longshot and and I can even admit to its faults. But it was FUN. THAT'S why the public is buying it.

Yes, that would be me!
Not many musicals do it for me. I saw "Dreamgirls" last week for the first time and I actually ended up liking it. "Across the Universe" is another one I enjoyed, but most musicals I find way too sappy for me.

Three straight months of Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Indiana Jones, Hancock, and The Dark Knight, the first hit movie that was fun and entertaining and included the whole family for viewing (yes damn it, I liked it to my total and utter surprise) to hit home video and it was a surprise?
I can predict that Marley and Me which is a hit now, will not be number one on blu. Nick and Norah's infinite playlist will also not be number one, but they damn sure will sell very good on DVD!!
