OK I need your help/opinion one more time before 2008 goes by the way side. I am a casual gamer, hell I still have the old XBOX, and I have been doing my online research about the XBOX 360 199.99 Holiday bundle. I have been reading about the red rings of death, the falcon chip and the new jasper chip. Is it worth my time and money to invest in this system. I know I will have to buy some memory, but thats no big deal. Microsoft is actually saling the 20mb hard drive and 3 month gold pass XBOX live for 29.99. But is the system a good reliable system?

So if you guys could help a brother out, It would be greatly appreciated.............Thanks.

Do you have a "credible link" to these RROD's on the falcon & jasper consoles?

Al I have been reading reviews from people on Best Buy and Circuit City web sites. I also googled XBOX 360 and read some reviews from other sites. Thats why i am confused and I coming to this site like I have done many times before to get some help. I guess I am asking folks like yourself who knows about gaming systems so I can make my decission. Again thanks in advance.

Do you have links with official RROD's on the jasper & falcon chips? Hearing & reading about it is one thing, I'm curious to see (or hear) where you're getting them... officially. In writing. Like web links...

I personally haven't had any issues whatsoever with my xbox 360 arcade. Whether it's a falcon chip or a jasper chip, is not important. Mine was manufactured Nov 2008. No issues.

Thanks Al that does help me a little. I was reading on one of the tech sites (I am sorry I cannot remember the site) that all the XBOX 360's that were manufactured after October 2008, were the new jasper chip and that the jasper was supposed to solve some of the problems that I have been reading about. However, they also said that the jasper is a tough to come by. I just want to know for sure before I go out and spend the money, thanks again Al.

And again Al, most of the negative reviews I have been reading are at Best Buy and Circuit City reader reviews.

Yeah, it's proven fact that the older version (manufactured prior to august of 2008) of xbox 360's can possibly go RROD on you. So I would look for consoles manufactured after August '08. The retail box has a hole that would show you the back of the console w/ manufacture date.

Al, you have been very helpful. The one web site said that on that hole in the back of the box, you should look for 12,1 A and that tells you that it has the jasper chip (they then said grab the box and run LOL) I guess it has something to do with the symble for the voltage that the jasper carries?

Anyways Al thanks again

Hey, no prob. Here's a link to more picture details on the Jasper version. I discovered mine to be the falcon version, & may just have to go back to my costco store & see if they have the jasper in stock...

While they have had problems with the "ROD" it seems to be less and less with each revision. So, if you can get a "Jasper" model I say go for it.

Also remember, they have a warranty of three years for certain general hardware failures which are indicated by three flashing red lights on the console.
