Sony is willing to take a hit on PlayStation sales because it makes the money back on games. Video game companies must pay a license to Sony to develop products for the PlayStation.

True, however, they also need to not get too far behind XBOX 360 and the Wii. Game developers make games for the strongest platforms where they can get more bang for their $. Sony has to consider a price cut soon. Especially in shaky economically times like these.

But Skyhawk has been saying for months that Sony has been making a profit on the PS3. How could this be?

I guess this means we won't be seeing a price reduction on the PS3 any time soon?

Falcon, shhh if you say his name 3 times he appears on the board. Then it takes multiple posts of him humiliating himself for him to go away for a while.

Sony is supposed to be happy that they are still losing money on their console? How long did it take the Microsoft games division to climb out of the red with the Xbox 360? Even with the Xbox 360 not taking as big of a loss as the PS3... even with the Xbox 360 out selling the PS3 hand over fist... Yeah, the PS3 will NEVER see profitability in it's lifetime.

Surprisingly enough if a vote were to be held at tribal council Mike, You would be surprised to find out that Hendrix, tony and yourself would be there standing up for him. maybe Kilgore too.

Yeah, on the PS3 matter I find it very difficult to see Sony holding on to the PS3 if next year fiscal gain was anything like this years. I think for Sony to wait around until 2010 for profit to come on a console that will soon be "Out of Date", when Nintendo and MS are starting to beta test and examine new techologies for their Next Gen console in the coming years. MS, and Nintendo may have out of date products as well, but they were at least paid off in a year or so of their release. I'm sure "HE" will show up with proving evidence to make that claim false, but you get the idea. They should cut their losses now, or break even then drop the hammer on the PS3. Clearly the Blu-Ray battle was beyond their means. I mean the thought of winning the Betamax/VHS war a the sake of proving a point instead of being laughed at for another royalty based system to F everyone else over at the sake of filling their pockets?

While I admittedly hate Sony now because of the way they mislead people during the format and gave false information more than once, I have to say I love the PS3 for everything that it does.

Yes it's expensive and it sucks A LOT of juice (electricity) but seriously, it really is an all-in-one entertainment centre. I had family over last night and even my GF's brother-in-law was impressed how we were able to watch all the family videos and photos though the PS3 with such ease on our plasma. I think I sold him on the PS3 for the sole purpose of being able save photos/videos on it and watch them, never mind that it does bluray and gaming as well.

I realize the XBOX360 does pretty much all the same things but it does NOT have a bluray player which currently cost $199 seperately (not considering boxing day prices) on average so if you work it out it's basically cheaper (if you want bluray to begin with) to get the PS3 and you have everything all in one unit. If you don't want a bluray player just get the cheaper (price wise)XBOX360 which is enjoying better game support from the developers. If you want an all-in-one unit for a home theatre, the PS3 is pretty much the way to go. How many gamers want this though? This is where the problem lies, gamers want a game system and price will dictate what they buy, that's the bottom line.

How good is the bluray aspect of the PS3? Who knows. Some people say the picture quality is great, others don't agree but it's still nice to have regardless.

The only thing really hurting the PS3 is the lack of games. It's supposed to be a video game console FIRST but it ended up being the flagship bluray player instead to win a format war. Then the focus went back to gaming. Sadly it may be too late but I hope not.
