I found this kinda funny. These two players apparently hit the market at Christmas in China, and retail for about $400 USD.

SHINCO (Looks like a Toshiba!)

TCL

Here is another shot of the Shinco proving even more resemblance to a Toshiba, by the remote...

Hey, if it walks like a Toshiba, talks like a Toshiba and smells like a Toshiba, then it must be a HDDV...uh...Shinco. Seriously, remember back 15 months or so when we discussed CHDVD as being only a codec away from HDDVD? Naw, it couldn't be...

That player looks EXACTLY like my HD-A3 HD DVD player. Even the remote is identical.

Amusing.

$400??? that puts discs in the $30 to $50 range. jeez...most people there buy $1 bootleg dvds. this format faces the same problem as blu-ray does in the rest of the world--high prices in an economic downturn.

eddie the funny part is that the majoirty of movies retail or about $20 USD. There to this point is no Hollywood studios on board, other than import titles that have $40 pricetags. The licence fees, and manufacturing costs are on board with the same tags as HD DVD. The licence fees for a disk are around $8, vs blu-rays $15 to $20. Not exact figures, but you get the idea.
