This is it. This is the crown jewel of portable media players. Now I just have to pay off my PS3 and convince my wife that this is a good idea. This is gonna be a tough one guys... A bit of help?

I got an Meizu 8GB M6 for Christmas. Although I wished I had the upcoming M8 instead, at least this media player does FLAC, lossless WMA, OGG, etc. and has FM radio too. It still looks pretty cool too. For a little over a hundred bucks, it's worlds above the ARCHOS in this regard for the serious music listener at least if you can get past the memory limitations.

Skyhawk that's actually a nice unit but the screen is only 2.4 inches which would suck for video. Then again it's only $100 as you say plus the audio playback features are nice.

I really don't get the whole portable player thing. I can only see it as useful for say a long car ride (as long as you're not driving) or a plane ride to wherever. As a day to day thing, it just seems to be more of a show-off toy than anything else. Then again, what am I saying? I was against the cell phone and MP3 players for years before I finally gave in an purchased both. And like a computer, I found I couldn't live without neither. lol

Falcon01, there isn't any way I'm watching a movie on a 4.5" screen, let alone 2.5". It's a great music player that supports the format (FLAC) I happened to have converted my extremely large collection of CD's to. Then again, many much cheaper players support the format including those iRiver and Sandisk ones.

When I need to watch movies while traveling on a plane or something, I'd use my laptop. Then again, if I can see the ground and have a window seat, I'd rather look there instead.

In our vehicle for long road trips, my wife found these cheap LCD panels that attached to the back of the seats for the kiddies. Since the two kids can't agree on a movie, they need to have their own separate panels and DVD players. At least it kept our trip out west to Banff and Jasper this summer tolerable. Soon we all go to Athens (forced because of work), and no players of any kind are allowed!

It's the cost of the original iPhone and it's everything that is except the phone part. But 250GB of storage more than makes up for that. Oh yeah, this also does one thing the iPhone doesn't... IT SUPPORTS FLASH 9.0!!! Tim, I commute for a few hours a day to and from work. And let me tell ya, wifi internets, movies, and music all in a single device is a godsend if you ask me!

Exactly, I see people with iPod earphones on everywhere so you know they're listening to their MP3 players but I also see students and others watching TV shows on their iPods and other portable players. So if you're going to do both (listen to music and watch videos) you may want something with a bigger screen as long as the cost for the bigger screen isn't hundreds of dollars more.

Spoonard, for the same price I would rather get the iPhone. I've played around with my friends and it's pretty sweet. Plus the iPhones have soooo many apps like Timmies me which tells you on the built-in GPS where all the Tim Hortons coffee shops are around you. Priceless.

EDIT: There's also this awesomeness for the iPhone...

SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone demoed on video, coming in Q1
