It was interesting and I liked the way they filmed it as if it were a documentary. I found it very boring most of the time to be honest. Not that I need Jason Bourne action all the time but I seriously fell asleep a few times in this movie.

Marisa Tomei was smokin.

It was interesting though at times, I will give it that much.

SPOILERS!!

I never knew that people got locked out of their trailers. That was like culture shock to me.

The ending was very anti-climactic also. It was almost like watching the last Rocky movie where you see what his life has become AFTER the glory years but at least Rocky made more sense. He got in the ring one last time and got it out of his system. The wrestler...well you will see.

The wrestler is not a bad movie, I just found it average.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I'll be fair to the film, the screenplay offers nothing new. You won't see that character go through smt that you don't expect from the "looser-social" genre. You know how it's gonna end up. It is burden by cliches that you are expecting to see in a movie like that, so much that sometimes you feel ur watching a student film (literally) on steroids. (i always thought Darren Aronofsky as a guy who tackles themes and situations that were done over and over again, with the difference he treats these situations and themes as cliche'ed as none dared before, i still believe "requiem for a dream" is a cineaste's-wannabe introduction to pretentious cinema)
What saves it is really mikey rourke. I Mean, the guy was type casted. If you pretend that guy is an actor instead of a wrestler u feel ur watching Rourkes life and his return to the big screen. Combine him and the way this was shot and it suddenly feels natural and not something artificial. You totally get drenched into this guy's world, and that, for me, made it a great movie.

On the Ending: There's no epilogue, that's why most people will find it "non-climactic" but the truth is that he ends up doing what fills him. Preferring to return to this fake world of "fighting" because the "fans" love him, thus someone does. Listen carefully to the speech he gives to his fans before the match. He even says it himself right before the match "i get more hurt outhere than in the ring" (perhaps the worst line in the film, since the entire 2nd act is all about that. how he gets "hurt" in the real world)

i couldnt disagree more with the above post in terms of Aronofsky. He is one of the best directors in hollywood today, hands down. Name one other feature film about wrestling that even comes close to the Wrestler? you can't.
When the whole wrestling community backs this film, you know its good. Mick Foley was interviewed as saying it is the most real depiction of the wrestling world in a fiction film.
The only wrestler who doesnt back this film is vince mcmahon. Not suprising, considering he's A. a Nazi, and B. he doesn't want anyone but him making money off of wrestling.

Go see this film. Your girlfriend might even like it more than you. Definitely chick friendly.
