I just had this idea at lunch so I thought I would share it here. When I bought my bluray player it came with a red white yellow, cable with it. Obviously that isn't what you would want to use to hook it up (providing you know what your blu ray player is.) So how many people do you think actually use the cables that come with it to hook it up? After all, I have seen people buy hd tv's thinking they would have hi def picture and then they watch nothing but stretched out (which i can't stand) Basic cable.

Your Blu-Ray player didn't come with an HDMI cable? Granted, my PS3 didn't come with one, but this is Sony we are talking about and are used to getting the shaft when it comes to what SHOULD be all inclusive devices. At any rate, to answer the question: No. I didn't use the cable sthat came with the PS3. I had bought a 6' HDMI cable from Amazon for I think $2.50 that was delivered the day before my PS3 was.

The red/white/yellow cable is usually a basic RCA cable for a single composite video connection and left/right two-channel audio connections. However, since there are actually three cables involved in the one, you could also use it to hook up just the video to your component connections and get an excellent HD picture that way.

Do users know how to use these things? Who knows. Most people who own widescreen high-definition TVs do not yet own high-definition disc players. What are they watching? Some of them are subscribing to high-def cable or satellite. Some of them are watching entirely in standard def, not caring or not realizing that they have high-def capability or what it is like.

High definition is an education project in progress. It will take time before everyone learns what's what, and maybe not everyone will. How many people are still going to wonder why their thirty-year-old televisions won't receiver broadcast signals after digital broadcasts take over completely, despite all the ads we've seen about the subject lately?

People are funny.

I'll cop to it. Before I got the HDTV in April 2008, I did use the regular old cords to connection the PS3 to the TV.

That being said...the minute I knew when the 46 inch'er was going to be delivered, I ordered the HDMI cable and we've been best friends ever since.

I litterally have a box of 2 and 3 Metre HDMI cables here at home. I should sell these bad boys on EBay...! What do you think $5 plus shipping? No they are not stolen, they are BGI cables, and will do 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 HDMI standards.... I use them in my home theatre and they work great!
If you are interested I'll post some on EBay...

Believe it or not, I use the basic cables in the box for they kids room, for basic video hook ups...

so daddy can still have the best...right?

yeah, this is a pretty important subject that we haven't really discussed on here. why they include these RCA cables is a complete mystery to me as well for a majority of the populace are not home theater tech. nerds (like us) and will use them. the general conclusion for those who know about these things (us), believe that it is a complete scam and the industry just wants to sell over priced cables to joe. their is no excuse for this considering that the cost of HDMI has come down considerably since inception.

u be surprised, alot of people use the cables that come in the box and dont know any better, my friend used the red, yellow and white cables plus the 50 dollar hdmi cable she bought lol she didnt know any better, she thought she needed both, haha. But i think they should insert a dvd dic in all hdtvs and blu rays players to just show people basic stuff, no body reads the manual. plus they need to put the right cables in the box for the blu ray players. that piss's me off, thats just being cheap.
