Yes, a bit of a shocker.

That makes me wonder. What happens 10 years from now when the last of the HD DVD players finally kicks the bucket? Yes I have a reserve player, but maybe the Blu-Ray players will play them, such as the DVD players finally started to play DIVX. Just a thought...

Like I said before, hold on to your HD DVD players and disks.

They will be collectible in the future. People get into personal niches and will collect virtually anything. Case in point: Google "quardaphonic stereo." This format (S) came and went real fast in the 70s but there are still collectors out there who will pay big bucks for working hardware and records/tapes. A Pioneer discrete 4 channel receiver was the basis for my first "surround sound" (at least, that's what I thought it was) system in the 1980s. All things evolve.

Hey, just a heads up. I have found a solution. I have found two peices of software that have solved my problem! I have one peice of software that converts HD DVD's evo files to Blu Ray's m2ts files. I also have the software to mix the HD DVD HDi menus to Blu Rays Java's files. The first program will convert the new files to Blu-Ray Disc! I'm going to try the process out today, and I'll let you know what I find out. Chances are I banking on the Movies only working on Blu Ray and not the menus but the HD content is what matters!

i disagree with this. this is not quad stereo that we are talking about here. this is not macintosh either. the breed of which you are speaking of, the true audiophile is a dying one indeed. this is a "disposable" generation and they could care less. sure, you will have a few that will want a piece of history and might be interested in hd-dvd, umd movies, sacd, dvd audio...but the market is flooded with enough product to satisfy demand. blu-ray will keep hd-dvd from being a collectible format much the same way that vhs did to beta.

I remember back in the day when VHS was the only player in town and Disney would put certain movies "in the vault" for a few years. People were buying them at a premium thinking they would be collectables at some point. I see those same VHS movies on craigslist for $3-$5 now.
